    The demise of the Mondeo

All theMK2 Escorts I had were hopeless, particularly the late estate car. To be fair my Y reg Fiesta I had was good.

    The demise of the Mondeo

MK2 Escort heaters weren't much better, but still better than a S2 Land Rover.

Inspection chamber - single or double skin brickwork?

I've always insisted on it as does every BCO I know. but I've never bothered to look to see where it is specified. So I've just had a look at BS 8000 part14 (my old employer has never changed the password to access the on line technical info service) and its specified there, it also states that...

    The demise of the Mondeo

My Suzuki LJ80's are all on belts and that engine dated back to 1977, though we only got the here in 1979, possibly a little earlier in the SC100 Whizz Kid.

Inspection chamber - single or double skin brickwork?

If I remember correctly the BS required a brick manhole should be water tested to 3 course above the benching, not that anyone ever bothered apart from a couple of jobs with Clerk of Works on them, CoW's nearly as rare as a Marscar bowl these days.

    Inspection chamber adapter?

I've only seen 2 of these in 40 years of inspecting drainage, I've seen more pitch fibre pipes than Marscar bowls. Looks like they are still available but I've never seen a new installation.

Inspection chamber - single or double skin brickwork?

Never seen it used, a former bricklayer I worked with didn't even know what it was. brick IC are pretty rare now anyway, I can't remember the last time I saw a newly constructed one.

Does our detached garage conversion need building regulations?

If the garage is an exempt building that is it is under 30 sqm, single storey, substantially non combustible or 1m from the boundary, does not contain sleeping accommodation and it still satisfies this criteria after the alterations, B Regs will not be required even if its used for a...

    The demise of the Mondeo

BBC news channel just did a feature on the demise of the Mondeo about 2mins ago, even featured a Mondeo estate same model and colour as mine driving through the "suicide" walls at Castle Howard.

    Synthetic Brushes

I have a bit of a side line buying up joblots of new and old tools, restoring/selling on and keeping the best stuff for myself. Over the past few years I've accumulated loads of new paint brushes which I use myself, usually just crappy ones only good for brushing on paint...

    The demise of the Mondeo

I had an R reg estate, I bought it mainly for its size and the Volvo's were considerably more expensive. The only criteria was that it had to be capable of holding a complete Lambretta. Most expensive car I've had in the last 27 years and the longest owned all for a massive 600 quid!! In...

    Space saving staircase to loft

If all else fails you can apply for a determination https://www.gov.uk/guidance/building-regulations-determinations I hadn't realised you could apply for these when using a private inspector, I'd always assumed it was only when dealing with local authorities, but then again I've never worked on...

    Space saving staircase to loft

You could put forward your proposal with the space saver, if they won't accept it you could Well I've allowed them and I've never worked for a private inspector.

    Space saving staircase to loft

I've seen them narrower at 500mm and they were OK and I'm not exactly small. There was a requirement to be 600mm in the B Regs but that was dropped years ago.

    Space saving staircase to loft

There is no minimum width for a stairway in this situation.

    Space saving staircase to loft

If it required a significant loss of space to a room to accommodate a stair, I would agree to using one, but even that depends on the room itself it wouldn't take much loss of space to a boxroom to make it unusable but a large bedroom could reasonably lose significantly more, the BCO should at...

    Space saving staircase to loft

How many bedrooms are there in the loft. You are allowed alternating stairs, or ladders for that matter, if a conventional stair cannot be accommodated but only to one bedroom but you will need to demonstrate this to BC.

    Out of date building sand???

I used to do 4x4 trials but someone told me that for fully modified 2WD car trialing they use tubes and poprivetted the tyres to the rims so they could run with very little air pressure.

Does our detached garage conversion need building regulations?

No as there has not been a change of use from an exempt building unless as you say there is sleeping accomodation. Yes, but in most cases this is carried out and self certified by the electrician. As long as it still falls in the exemption of schedule 2 describe it however you like. Small...
