    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Well I walked into my living room this morning and it was nice and warm for the first time in nearly a month, so it's definitely working :) It doesn't seem to be hotter than it should be, but I'm keeping an eye on it. What I think I'll do is take the cover off next weekend and check the state...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Ah good. Thanks Lectrician. I tried just bending the legs but it simply didn't fit into place very well, so I did some trimming of length and bending of legs, and it all seems to fit in well now :) Tonight is test night (if I come home). I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again :)

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Here's the link I've been sent: And here's the one that looks like mine: Both are for the Creda 79161 apparently, so is bending and trimming the legs okay on the one I have? Thanks :)

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Hi guys, I've had the fusible link sent through and it all looks good (it has a yellow splodge on the right, same as the existing one). My last remaining question about this is that the legs on the link I've been sent are much longer (about 50% more) than the legs on the existing link. I...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Excellent :) Thanks Lectrician. I'll buy one and see how I get on. Thanks for your patience and ample time on this issue. It's much appreciated :) I'll post back with my experiences on the repair soon :) Cheers, Lloyd

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Legend. Absolute legend. Thankyou :) I will definitely take the route of getting a new thermal link and installing it myself then. The heater is a Creda Automatic 79161, I believe. Does that help in determining the colour of the thermal link? Thanks Lectrician, and everyone who has...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Crafty: Thanks for pointing out that there could be an underlying reason. The heater never gets set over level 4 on either dial, so I don't ever overheat it. However, I *think* I might know why it might have melted. I went away over Christmas, and my partner went to stay with her family a day...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Lectrician: That's excellent! :) Thankyou. At least we know why it has died now. I did notice that the blob didn't seem to be doing anything, and wondered whether that might be a problem; but thanks for pointing it out and confirming it. A few questions relating to it then: i) Just to...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Ahh, I follow what you're saying about MCBs and fuses :) Regarding resetting the switch, my only concern is that it didn't trip to 'OFF' itself when the heater stopped working - I set it to 'OFF' myself. So when you say I should reset it back to 'ON', might that fix the problem, even though...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Hi guys, Thanks for all your tips. I had a look around today and this is how I got on: I started by taking a look at my consumer unit to change the fuse. I found the individual switch for the heater and switched it off; however when it came to removing the fuse I got a little stuck (I'm in...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Thanks for joining in BJS_Spark :) I believe I've found the three screws under the heater and the two at the top-back, so that's a good start to access the guts of this heater :) It's also a relief that the fuse is in the consumer unit, not the wall face plate (I didn't fancy taking off...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Thanks very much for your help! Very informative! I can't see how to remove the cover on the heater after having a quick look. The only cover I can see that's easy to access is the heater dials on top of the heater. Would it be a metal panel that I could physically have to lever off with a...

    Economy 7 - dead heater?

Hi all, First post and domestically limited, so go easy :) I have a problem for which I'm not sure how to best resolve, and I've not found anything searching the forum. I live in a 'one-up-one-down' flat, with heating supplied through three Economy 7 wall-mounted heaters. All has been fine...
