    Oh ok i have not noticed that but there is some tape higher up the wire so it could be in there , what i will do when i get home is check that yellow wire to see if that is the switched live im sure it must be

    That’s brilliant thanks for the help , I think the yellow is an earth wire but it has been used for the switched live because you can see the wiring on the old fan when I took that down the yellow wire was connected to one of them in the block and none of those are earth ?

    Yes that’s correct, so do i need to put the yellow switched live to the live terminal and the permanent live red wire to the block with nothing connected to it ?
