Luke warm radiators - on Rad + UFH System

Our house has a heating system identical to the one pictured. System boiler with unvented HW cylinder, upstairs radiators (12 of them) and about 100 square meters of UFH. All separated by individual 2 port valves. We've recently been renovating the far end of the house (and far end of the...

    Sink not flat on top

It's just for a guest en suite, so I was hoping to do it on the cheap. Maybe I'll return it and go for a better brand. However the offset overflow on the villeroy and boch compact sinks would sent my OCD nuts (they have obviously done it for space saving reasons)!

    Sink not flat on top

I've just received a wall mounted sink, and the top is pretty wavy (about 10mm deviation across the top). That last sink I got a few years ago was also not at all flat on top, and was a nightmare to tile. I'm wondering how common is this? I'm not sure if I should send it back.

Connecting multiple wastes & preventing siphoning

I'm putting two bathrooms back to back, with the waste running through the stud wall between the two. In to the 50mm waste I'll have a shower, and three basins drains (one basin is a double) - as pictured. Would you recommend an air admittance valve be put in the wall near the shower end to...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

But the first result in google when you search for "electrical regulatory body" is NICEIC - so they've clearly paid for it to be there. It seems like there's actually nothing out there to save consumers from rogue electricians. The average member of the public will see the NICEIC badge and...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

When picking an electrician I made sure that they were NICEIC registered, however looking at their complaints procedure it seems that they can't really do anything to get rid of these cowboy electricians: https://www.niceic.com/find-a-contractor/complaints It seems that there is no real way to...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

And I'm back! This morning I went to straighten and relay the carpets upstairs, only to notice loose floorboards. They hadn't secured any floorboards back down! Messaged the company owner (who has still yet to come round), only to get a lovely professional response (@JohnW2 would like this)...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Thanks, I'll make a complaint to the NICEIC tonight then. He's meant to come back to put a new fuse board in, so I'm not sure what to do there

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

The old part of our hose is the same! Some of the oak joists aren't quite square due to what you said about them being planed from the edges of a tree. Every time I work on the old bit of the house it amaizes me that they built something so strong, straight and professional with out the use of...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Too right! Not only are they beefier, they're not made out of twisted quick grown pine that you can only get these day. The UK is full of victorian houses still standing strong, I'd love to see the state of some of the current new builds in 150 years!!!

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Indeed, that was the company owner. I've sent him a bunch of resources for him to learn from regarding the joists, but is this stuff not taught as part of training and tested with assesments? It's even more frustrating that he won't admit the work isn't up to scratch. If he'd held his hands up...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Unfortunately this is a reply I've recieved from the owner. It seems like I'm not going to be able to get through to him. What he is saying is just worrying to me. What's the next port of call? NICEIC? I also worry about the future work they need to do, and if I try to find someone else...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Thats exactly what I would expect! He sounds like a great electrician. He doesn't happen to be in the Bedfordshire area does he?

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Exactly! And it makes you think what happens to people who don't know what to look out for when they've got these people in their house. What is also a pain is if you try and do any of those yourself and ask questions on some forums, you just get people saying to employ a professional. But I'm...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

They're 22mm holes in 220x44 joists over a 4.2m span (max span for such a joist is 4.5m). So there is a slight bit of tolerance I guess. At least the holes are drilled at an angle, so they're more central on the other side. I told them multiple times the ceiling is being over boarded so they...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

That's what I thought, with the bottom tension part being the most important

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

Indeed I am. I'm not really sure what to do about it. I imagine it will be fine, the joists are from the 90s, so hopefully have some structural integrity unlike today's wood

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

I completely agree! I'll have to double check on the wagos on the box. Thanks for your advice, I wanted to check that I wasn't being over picky. We'll see what bossman says tomorrow

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

I can see the pics when not logged in, maybe a refresh of the page would show them? On their way out they said let us know when ready for second fix, and they're happy for us to board the ceiling. The pictures are all of the mains rings. I was also under the assumption that MF boxes had to be...

Bottom of joists drilled and taped up wagos

We've just had an electrician in today to install some new sockets and a new ring for the kitchen and I'm a bit disappointed with the work. After my brief look, I've seen that they've done some of the following and would love your thoughts: - Drilled through the bottom of multiple long spanning...
