Stop cock or not for holiday (boiler + thermal storage)

Appreciate it, luckily mine is 60 days! It looks like more of them are 60 now, when I looked a few years ago they were all 30. "Unoccupied: We consider your home to be unoccupied when it is not lived in and not used overnight by you or your family for more than 60 days in a row."

Stop cock or not for holiday (boiler + thermal storage)

Thanks I'll have a look. And the heating system is fine to be left running with mains off?

Stop cock or not for holiday (boiler + thermal storage)

I have a Boilermate 0V thermal storage and a boiler. Don't know more than this but could investigate. Going away for 6 weeks. I was planning to leave heating on 15 min morning/evening with thermostat at 15C, water on hot all the time. Do I turn off the main stop cock? Would like to minimise...

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

Bit of a bigger job. This cable runs power so technically needs a conduit. Easy to open up wall again later when we figure out exactly what we need but ultimately that will be the plan :)

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

Thanks for the fair warning. It's built for this, it can even go completely flush! Most of the electronics are in a 'one connect' box so not in the TV itself. There's also a 7.5mm gap at the back as the mount has been designed. Wanted to buy it specifically for how close it gets.

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

Very happy with the results. That Samsung Slim Fit Wall Mount is glorious. Pray for my neck!

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

My mount doesn't mount centrally, so couldn't use central stud (wooden). Also while plasterboard fixings might work, I've read some nightmare stories so fastening into battens will allow to sleep a little better at night.

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

Went for 4 battens, pretty sure each of them can hold half of my mate so we'll see tomorrow how it goes! For future reference if anyone is trying to do the same. Used 38x63mm battens (2.4m £4 from B&Q) and 80mm turbodrive screws (2 on each side of each batten). Should have made the...

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

Ok I got impatient and opened it up. There's a stud (red) in the middle and on the two edges (74 cm apart). Would attaching two (or 4) battens, single or double (green) to this work? This would leave 8 mounting holes. I guess corefix wouldn't be good for this as there's no cavity , would I just...

Mounting tv on hollow false chimney breast

I am aware of people's dislike of above fireplace mounting, this is what the wife wants so I'll make it happen. For some reason I thought my chimney breast was dot n dab so I went for the corefix solution. Drilling into it however I find it is completely empty, so likely plasterboard followed...

Mounting tv on false chimney breast, avoiding inset fire flue

Yes, the angle is not that bad (deep lounge so 4 m away in couch). Think I calculated something like 10 degrees up. We don't really use the fireplace + it's blowing away from the fireplace and there's a mantel, I'll check the heat on the wall when fully on but TV is compatible with 40C. Also...

Mounting tv on false chimney breast, avoiding inset fire flue

Is there a standard positioning for the flue, would it always be in the middle? My mount goes on the sides. Would I be able to detect it with a stud finder? How should I proceed? I'm pretty sure there's no gas supply as the fire is original from new build, will ask neighbours. Thanks :)

Mounting tv on false chimney breast, avoiding inset fire flue

Here's the certificate. I'm certain the fire is electric, but I guess doesn't mean there's no gas line?

Mounting tv on false chimney breast, avoiding inset fire flue

It's a great question. I thought it was electric as well (it feels like an electric with buttons, no ignition mechanism). Certainly false plastic coal effect. RICS 2 survey also said false chimney with electric fire. But then I found a gas certificate for the chimney/fire under the kitchen sink...

Mounting tv on false chimney breast, avoiding inset fire flue

I have a false chimney breast (poor photos included as big TV is in the way), with an inset gas fire. I've figured out the breast is dot and dab by knocking (so hopefully onto brick, which I will check with pilot hole). I plan to mount using 6-8 Corefix wall fixings, the TV is 65" 24kg, so not...

1 way 2 gang (probably no neutral) to smart switch

Ok it finally clicked, that explains why!

1 way 2 gang (probably no neutral) to smart switch

For future reference, this seems to suggest that any circuit with multiple lights would allow you to change the switched live to neutral in the ceiling rose. This would make it an extremely common solution. I'm not sure why I haven't seen it mentioned throughout extensive googling. Then what's...

1 way 2 gang (probably no neutral) to smart switch

They're on the same breaker, but so is all the lighting upstairs (labelled on breaker as well). Is this an issue? Why does same breaker mean continuous circuit (I presume that this means neutral and live going through all lights). Couldn't one breaker control multiple circuits, or maybe that's...
