    Sagging ceiling joists

Thanks cdbe, The original ceiling joists run into the external stone (Stone exterior and brick interior, no cavity) on one side, and onto an internal stone wall on the other, no hangers used. I don't really mind losing a bit of height, just not entirely sure how to fix the new ceiling joists to...

    Sagging ceiling joists

Hi Marty, thanks for the suggestions. The loft space above that particular room will be used for storage mainly. Nothing too heavy. I am trying to get hold of a structural engineer to try and find a way past the tie in the attic truss I mentioned, that would give me the option of adding a...

    Sagging ceiling joists

Thanks, I had considered that, but from what I have been able to find online, with a span as big as mine BS recommends a joist size of 47x220 for spans up to 5400 which would add a lot more weight than I currently have. Also one side of the current joists rests on an internal stone wall that...

    Sagging ceiling joists

Hi all, I am hoping to get some advice/thoughts on how to best tacking an issue with our ceiling. Our bedroom ceiling in our Victorian house needed replacement as the old plaster was damp and falling down. I have removed the old plaster and some of the old lathe, but have noticed that the...

    Internal stone walls

@tell80 The plasterboard was a temporary fix to get the Mrs off my back after I opened the ceiling up to see what was going on up there. The roof is coming off in a couple of months and the parapet gutters (which are completely shot) are getting replaced. Yes, the external walls are also going...

    Internal stone walls

@JohnD That could be. There are quite a few bits of wood scattered through the walls. I just assumed it was later additions that was done when the house was split into two properties by the council in the 60s. They are also pretty randomly scattered.

    Internal stone walls

It does seem to pretty shot in most places, and is coming off on large chunks. If it were solid I'd happily skim over it, but it does seem like most of it will come off. It's also throwing up some surprises like random concrete, in places, lots of holes, and a few bits of newish plaster.

    Internal stone walls

Tell 80 Sorry if I was not clear on my original post. The walls in question are the internal partition walls between rooms, not the internal face of the external walls. The internal partition walls (pictured) in this house are all solid stone, and are all dry. It is these walls that I am...

    Internal stone walls

Hi John. I'm up in rossendale in Lancashire. The stone is most likely sandstone, like the other houses in the area, bit I'm not got at identifying stone and worse and identifying timber.

    Internal stone walls

Hi all, I am hoping to get some advice. I have a Victorian property where all the walls (internal and external) are solid stone with thick horsehair plaster/ lime and multiple layers of wall paper. Some of the external walls are quite damp as the previous occupants never did any work to the...

Eufy doorbell camera to replace old doorb

Hi RG, The model number is T8200311 I think. It does include bridging wires, but I tested the voltage (16v) and decided to go ahead and wire it as it is. It seems to be working ok and the old bell doesn't seem to be ringing when the doorbell is pushed. Thanks for looking into it.

Eufy doorbell camera to replace old doorb

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with this. I am trying to replace an old doorbell in a house with wiring that has not been touched in a while. The instructions from Eufy are fairly straight forward for replacing modern doorbells, but mine is a bit of a mishmash as can be seen from the...
