Mystery switch and recommissioning a Scantronic 9448+

Sorry I don't know what on flex means - is that the cable that feeds the switch? Just looks like standard twin and earth with a white jacket. Switching it on and off when I have the multimeter connected doesn't change the reading - is stays at 240v. But when I flip the breaker on the first...

Mystery switch and recommissioning a Scantronic 9448+

Yeah I think that is it - I would love to know what though! I flipped some breakers with my multimeter connected and it's currently on the first floor lighting circuit, so who knows.

Mystery switch and recommissioning a Scantronic 9448+

Can't see that is does anything. Doesn't affect my electricity IHD live use when I switch it on. I always assumed it was for the alarm given its proximity. I did have some weird outside light arrangement when I moved in years ago that seemed to have a mind of it's own on a three way switch in...

Mystery switch and recommissioning a Scantronic 9448+

Hi all, I wonder if anyone knows what this switch does that is near my alarm system? I had a new consumer unit a few years ago and the alarm was decommissioned at the time. There is no dedicated breaker in the fuse box for the alarm and the battery and fuse had been removed. There is a breaker...

    Correct wiring for extractor motor

I always seem to find the answer after I've posted despite searching beforehand! If anyone else is ever in the same position, this post talks about wiring the same type of fan motor unit and they have taken an educated guess on how it's wired and that matches what I think I can see in the...

    Correct wiring for extractor motor

Hello all, I posted recently about replacing the motor in my extractor hood. There was a post made in 2018 which describes the problem and gives some tips that was very helpful here: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/cooker-hood-no-fan-function.507694/ Unfortunately when I was taking the old...

    Extractor hood motor replacement

Ah ok - I didn't know that. That might be an option as they are not even that expensive. It's been rammed in to a bit of cut coving and had filler put down the sides so it may look a bit crap afterwards if I rip it out but I can probably fix that. It doesn't extract to the outside! No...

    Extractor hood motor replacement

My recirculating extractor hood has stopped recirculating after 15 years of daily use. The light still turns off and on, no fan spin at all, not even an attempt. 2 things I've just found out: 1. It doesn't look like it's been installed from a fused spur that I can see (no switch or box or...

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

I think I may have found a solution to my problem. Looking at the documentation for the Hager Sollysta switches it seems that there are quite a few that are compliant with the BS EV standard...

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

Yeah I don't think I will be messing with the end of an EVSE charger anytime soon. Bit beyond my skill set.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

Thank you that's really helpful. I might just be missing something obvious but I can't quite work out how I would secure a standard switched socket in the back of that enclosure if the socket doesn't have those flanges on the sides. They look moulded to the included socket and as my socket is a...

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

This is the picture of the back of the WP23L. I just looked at a YouTube video of an unboxing too. See 2min02 From what I can see those flanges are attached to the socket and blanking plates and are how you secure the socket into the enclosure, so I don't think an alternative socket without...

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

Ah thanks I'll take another look. The pictures look like the supplied socket has flanges that come out of each side of the socket to secure it into the housing. My socket just has the standard two screw holes on the plate itself and I can't see how it can be secured but I may have missed something.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

It doesn't need to be IP rated but the garage does get pretty dusty so a little ingress protection may be helpful as an added precaution. I'm only being extra cautious as I'll be occasionally granny charging an EV with it, hence why I need to use this specific socket that's rated for that purpose.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

It's going inside my garage so I may end up just using a plastic pattress as that is the easiest solution. The enclosures look nicer, and have a bit of dust protection but looks like it's not going to work unless I modify the enclosure I already have. Shame there isn't a 1.5x width version so...

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

I said "I need to use this specific switched socket"

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

That would be perfect but if you look at the pictures it looks like that enclosure uses a proprietary socket design so I can't swap it out for the one I need to use as I wouldn't be able to secure it in the enclosure.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

This housing would be great but looking at the spec sheet I don't think I would be able to secure the specific socket I need to use in the housing. look like it's only designed to use the socket that it is supplied with.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

If the socket was unswitched I think that would be perfect but as it is switched the receptacle part is shifted to the left which is what causes the problem with the moulded part of the plug as it is no longer centred in the enclosure.

    Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

This is a specific socket rated to BS 1363-2 EV. The socket and enclosures are available separately.
