Socket enclosure for chunky plugs

Yes, use a plastic EV socket. You don't want to be faffing with a lid, and trying to grasp the plug, if you don't have to.

You would think outdoor ones would be more common

This housing would be great but looking at the spec sheet I don't think I would be able to secure the specific socket I need to use in the housing. look like it's only designed to use the socket that it is supplied with.

It's going inside my garage so I may end up just using a plastic pattress as that is the easiest solution. The enclosures look nicer, and have a bit of dust protection but looks like it's not going to work unless I modify the enclosure I already have.

Shame there isn't a 1.5x width version so the receptacle bit could still be central with a switched socket in the enclosure. That would allow a lot more space for the bottom part of the plug.

It doesn't need to be IP rated but the garage does get pretty dusty so a little ingress protection may be helpful as an added precaution. I'm only being extra cautious as I'll be occasionally granny charging an EV with it, hence why I need to use this specific socket that's rated for that purpose.

Ah thanks I'll take another look. The pictures look like the supplied socket has flanges that come out of each side of the socket to secure it into the housing. My socket just has the standard two screw holes on the plate itself and I can't see how it can be secured but I may have missed something.

More like euromodules in 'non standard' plates with the units I've worked with.
However they have been mounted from the rear so as long as it's wide enough I don't see why a shandard plate cant be accomodated.

I will say is the 2 granny charging leads I've encountered have included very chunky plugs and the vast majority of 'outside sockets' leave little space to grip the plug and something like this may be useful:

This is the picture of the back of the WP23L. I just looked at a YouTube video of an unboxing too. See 2min02

From what I can see those flanges are attached to the socket and blanking plates and are how you secure the socket into the enclosure, so I don't think an alternative socket without those flanges could be used. This would totally work if it could accept a standard socket.

I might just be missing something obvious but I can't quite work out how I would secure a standard switched socket in the back of that enclosure if the socket doesn't have those flanges on the sides. They look moulded to the included socket and as my socket is a standard one I can't see how it could be fixed into position from the back.

Yeah I don't think I will be messing with the end of an EVSE charger anytime soon. Bit beyond my skill set.

They look moulded to the included socket and as my socket is a standard one I can't see how it could be fixed into position from the back.

It may possibly be as simple as large washers or metal plates

however the socket plate is not a standard height so some sort of alterations will be required for the blanks, another possibility is a metal plate to serve as the blanks too

Having not done it myself or having one here to check, I don't know if the dimensions work.

This is a specific socket rated to BS 1363-2 EV. The socket and enclosures are available separately.

How does that differ from any other BS-1363-2 socket?
