Scatmanjohn When probing the black and white wires i get no continuity when the switch is at rest. When probing the same wires i do get continuity when the switch is pressed. No continuity across black and red regardless of switch position. mickp1

ChrisR Can i just check i am doing this right. I have put one probe to the black wire and the other one to white. There is continuity through this test. When i probe black and red there is no continuity regardless of the switch position. Have i checked this correctly and if so are we...

Got the switch off and there are three wires sealed into the switch. Not sure which ones to probe to test the switch Black, White & Red Any ideas ?. mickp1

Could be a sludge problem but one thing at a time - you need to et the hot water comin on when it's supposed to be on for the right controls to be in operation.

With the heating on the water starts off as hot, it then seems to cycle between warm then hot, warm then hot etc. If we run a bath it is always a case of checking the water every few minutes to make sure it has not run cold. As soon as you switch the heating off it's ice water again. mickp1

Tried that. When you switch on the hot water tap the arm comes out fully towards me. The boiler fires up at this point then runs for a couple of seconds and cuts out. The boiler then fired up again after about 20 seconds, ran for 3 seconds then cut out again. No hot water whilst all this is...

Scatmanjohn I think you are right. Your description matches what i see. Is this a job that the average D.I.Y man can handle or do i need to be making some phone calls to the local heating guys ?. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. So far so good. mickp1

No he hasnt charged me as fortunately i have breakdown insurance. I have however had to have four early finishes at work to let the guy experiment. Thanks for the advice. Could there be any other problems that i need to watch for.
