It feeds an EV charger and the garage. Maximum draw on a high use day would be circa 55amps at most. Average around 32amps.

Multiple CUs with 25mm and 16mm tails. RCD specs

The fuse in the meter box is 100 amp, the RCD in the CU fed by 16mm tails is 80amp. I should add that the other two CUs are fed by 25mm tails and have 63amp RCDs. Hence why I asked. But looking through the posts, its looks nothing to worry about :)

Multiple CUs with 25mm and 16mm tails. RCD specs

I have 100amp DNO fuse feeding three CU's. One of the CU's is fed with 16mm tails and contains an 80 amp RCD. The tails are around 1.5m in length and go through the cavity wall with batten insulation. Do I have a potential issue with this set up, or should the 80 amp RCD be replaced with a 60...

Jointing Compound and Filler for wall chases: Fire Status?

Ironic that on 'Trigger Point' flour was used as an explosive to suck oxygen from a garage. A bit like my wife's cookies

Jointing Compound and Filler for wall chases: Fire Status?

It does appear to be a head scratcher. Sometimes you read something and it leads to overthinking !

To swage or use a straight coupler (15mm copper rad pipes)

Cheers guys. I'll solder a couple of couplers on. When I changed all the pipework last year, I planned the layout for the minimum joints under the floor. I had not planned for changing a few rads to K2s.

To swage or use a straight coupler (15mm copper rad pipes)

I have to remove two small sections of pipe on a rad feed and return to fit a newly installed K2 (previously a K1). Is it worth me investing in a decent punch to swage the pipe to save two joints or just solder two straight couplers and be done with it. Access to the pipework is under a floating...

    Add interest to hipped roof

I have a bungalow with a hipped roof that is situated side on to the road. The loft height is 1.6m at its highest point, so zero chance of an affordable loft conversion. I'd like to add some interest to the roof by either vaulting part of it and adding roof windows that form a mini dormer on the...

Removing stuck fence panel between two slotted concrete posts

One last question if I may. The posts I have have two different slot sizes (55mm and 50mm) (image of dimensions attached). Is there any reason for the two different sizes?

Removing stuck fence panel between two slotted concrete posts

I’m extending an existing fence by two panels that has been in situ for 21 years. I need to remove an existing panel to replace the gravel board but the panel ‘appears’ stuck. Is there a technique to remove it? Secondly, to match the existing line, I’ll be using a 6x5 panel with a 6inch...

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

The weather here has been very mild, so have had no need for the heating. I did look back over some notes I took when I just moved in and the pattern was as follows: Boiler set between min and max, five rads with their TRVs fully open, and one on number 2. Wall stat, at 18 degrees After...

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

Yes, that’s correct. If the room is at 15 degrees, and I set the room stat to 21 degrees. For the first 30 mins the boiler comes on and stays on, then it cycles. At this point the room temp may be around 19 degrees, so the boiler cycles until 21 degrees is satisfied. It’s a 2 bed bungalow with...

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

Thank you for the words of advice @Exedon With my rudimentry knowledge of heating systems, the only conclusion I could reach was it was operating correctly. Its been serviced by a local guy for over twenty years (nearly all oil boilers in this area) who has a good reputation, so I’ll use him...

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

This may also be worth knowing. The pump I think is variable? Grundfos Alpha 15-60 130 with a Honeywell DU145 auto bypass valve. I suppose at some point I will have to explore how to set the DU145 up with a variable speed pump, but that's for another day.

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

The room stat is a Honeywell Smartfit. All the rads apart from the bathroom have TRVs which are fully open.

HRM Wallstar oil fired boiler 12/14 Short Cycling or Normal?

HRM Wallstar Oil fired Boiler 12/14: Short Cycling or Normal? Hi I’ve recently moved into a property that has an oil fired Wallstar Boiler (12/14 model ?) that’s around 20 years old. It has a good service record and ‘appears’ to be working. When it is being used for heat, the boiler fires...

A question regarding 'Reinforced UPVC door panel'

I was due to replace a 28mm door panel today (replace cat flap). I was advised to buy a 28mm reinforced panel with 4mm MDF sandwiched between two layers of polystyrene. Which I did. However, when it turned up the 4mm MDF is on the edge between the white plastic and styrene (see pic). Is this...
