    Shortening bathroom extractor ducting run

We had an inline bathroom extractor fan installed a year or so ago which has made a huge difference to our tiny and very prone to condensation bathroom (although we almost always have window open with showers still, anyway). I was up in the loft today and noticed that the ducting run the...

Cold water pipes make loud whooshing sound but only then tap is on medium flow

My bathroom mixer tap causes a very loud whooshing sound when it's on cold and at what I would call medium flow. At a low flow there's no whooshing sound in the pipe, and at maximum flow there's also no whooshing sound in the pipe. Why might this be? What can I do to fix it?

    Replacing downlight

Thanks. I actually had an EICR done when I moved in and I don't think it picked up on this! Is wiring it into the mains a relatively straight forward job (a la sockets/light switches) or should I really be getting an electrician in to do it?

    Replacing downlight

One of my downlights has failed and I believe it's one of those ones where you can't remove the bulb you just replace the whole unit. I can't find the exact same model as replacement (see first picture for the model), so I am going to need to replace it with some other brand probably. However I...

    Plumber can't find leak

I might buy a cheap borescope and take a look through ceiling below to see if any mould. Let's assume that I can see some mould, would it be crazy to spray mould remover (e.g. Zinsser product that you use pre-painting) into the ceiling void onto the mould? I really don't wanna start lifting...

    Plumber can't find leak

We have a combi boiler, but thanks for the suggestion Second plumber came around, said the first plumber "lacked common sense" and said it probably was the tap as no other leak evident. He has now replaced that tap, so hopefully all sorted. Still smells VERY damp though. How long does it take...

    Plumber can't find leak

The worktop next to the sink is now wobbly - it's definitely where the leak penetrated

    Plumber can't find leak

okay, so it seems like my theory is correct. This means that the weird sewer-y smell is unrelated, right? Do I need to get a drain survey to work out what's going on there?

    Plumber can't find leak

Bit of a weird one, this. Pictures at end. I woke up this morning to water coming down through the kitchen ceiling (and light fitting) and a pool of water on the kitchen floor. There's a bathroom above. I turned the water off and the water stopped leaking. I then rang a plumber who came to take...

What filler to use for this hole at the edge of a window frame

What filler should I use for this hole above my window in the bathroom (ignore the mould, gonna clean it and repaint too)? The second picture shows the depth in the wall the window is located (it's an uninsulated cavity wall). The hole is pretty deep (an inch or so both outwards and upwards)...

    New 2 gang light switch

Thanks! Always good to learn just how little I know So I just need to make sure the pairs are in the same triangle?

    New 2 gang light switch

I see this is a common topic, but every single one seems different! First time rewiring a light switch (yes I've taken all appropriate precautions). Old switch (left one on picture of backs) has neutrals in L1 and lives in COM as you'd expect. New one is plastic but has a warning on it about...

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

Okay in that case do I have to sand the whole wall back to underneath the old coat??

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

I'll probably scrape, prime, do one more coat of white then do the top colour. Good job I bought 10 litres of the white paint. Is it stupid to prime whole wall? I don't mind spending the money, and I'd rather not have to spot prime again after doing another coat...

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

It was a kids room before we moved in, so that is very very likely. Is it worth also spot priming and, if so, with what? Zinsser 123? BIN? I think I've got some old peel stop in the garage.

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

Unfortunately the ones from last night didn't disappear, and it's happening on every single wall. Popped latest ones and can see original colour, on the back of the skin?? Might be time for a primer

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

So what do I need to do? Sand it all back?

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

It's the same colour as the first coat when I pop the bubble. Gonna try painting at like 6am tomorrow when it's much cooler, hopefully that'll work...

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

Now it's doing it on another wall! It's gotta be the heat, surely

    Paint bubbles immediately after painting

Thanks! Although the first coat went on fine, which is the most confusing thing...
