    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Lovely neighbour has just knocked on our door, wants to make things "easy for us because we'll have to look at the garage". Husband said "Party Wall Act: phone your surveyor".

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

It's pretty much like this but attached to their bungalow. Ta, Freddie. That actually looks as accurate as the plans they submitted!

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Hi:the plans submitted to the Council indicate that the outer wall which affects us will be a double brick layer. The garage itself will be attached to their existing garage (which is attached to ours and shares a flatroof) at the rear and attached to his bungalow along the other side. I...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Must admit: when I read about the Party Wall Act, I thought what a waste of time it was:no enforcement. I've also read some warnings over injunctions to stop work and that is not going to happen! Like I said, we've accepted that we can't stop it but we want to protect our property from...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

You're pretty much reading my mind: fancy looking law but nothing to back it up. I get the feeling that at the best, if the builder doesn't bother and something goes wrong, the Court may look less favourably on them and as Mister Rusty has pointed out, the biggest winners are always the lawyers...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Avoid some locations like the plague: avoid some house locations like the plague, don't buy a house where your neighbours can mess you about! Tbh, I wasn't over the moon with buying a house with a semi-shared drive. Why do you think I meant something else? This forum has actually been useful...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Like I said: if he decided to play fair and do what he should do, a Party Wall Agreement, we will not be needlessly unco-operative but he knows nothing about building and likes a bargain. His wife told me that building works to the property when they moved in were messed up because he employed...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

I've found that out: pigeon I'll accept...as for making cups of tea for the builders: his wife wouldn't like that, she loves making tea for them, shame to upset her as well. So, to avoid any chance of being a PITA, I'm going to do absolutely nothing unless he trespasses or causes damage, in...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

So, in other words:I'm the PITA if I don't suck up to someone who has made it clear that they'll do whatever they want and don't care. Wish I'd thought about that when they asked us to replace some fencing that affected them but was not visible to us and we did it willingly. I know what you're...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Ta, Woody: 1 . only if they trespass/damage. 2.Seems to depend on who benefited from the original excavation 50 years ago. Possibly both as on natural slope? 3. Good ! What really gets my host is that we're getting older and have health issues and we may need to move in the next couple of...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Looks like we've got "property infringement" and "property damage" legal cover on our insurance, maybe we'll look into that.

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Neighbour took planning permission refusal to appeal and won, so garage it is! We only found out by checking the web ourselves, the appeals officer didn't know if care that we had objected. Anyway... The plans show them building to the borderline but they've told the appeals officer that they...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Luckily he wrapped it up with a pp for an extension to the front of the property which did require pp. Funnily enough, that will abut a "porch" he built on the front which is 3 meters square ( 9 square meters), not 3 square meters with no pp, guess someone read the rules wrong.

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Ta, Woody. Yes, I guess I'm just thinking two steps ahead because my neighbour is going to appeal. He's got a back garden much bigger than ours and could easily build at the back without affecting us but I think he's decided that his front drive is already being used to park his cars anyway and...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Better than I could do by far! Just attach the proposed garage to the neighbour's wall and bring my house forward so that my back wall is six feet forward of my garage. My Windows are in the centre of my bungalow. Cheers.

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

Hi,Freddie: Sorry, I'm feeling "under pressure" and I'm really stupid with computers plus I don't want to give too much away because of the stage we're at. The Planning application is still in the 21 day period for neighbours and public to comment but the Planning Officer has told our...

    Neighbour's Planning Surprise

We got a letter from the Council as our neighbour has applied to build a new garage attached to his property, amongst other changes which don't affect me. The Planning Office advised our neighbour at pre-application that the plan was unlikely to be approved because it is overwhelming and cramps...
