    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Yes it is still working even now after all this time. I haven't been on the forum for a while as I got flamed over something so didn't come back for a while. The short flush could do with adjusting but apart from that it's fine. Once I got it sealing properly I didn't want to mess about...

Dishwasher & Washing Machine waste using a HEPvO

Indeed, I bought one of those on Sunday and also a space saving trap with no spigots. I don't know which I will use yet until I get the Trouble Sink installed (Belfast)i want to avoid extending any flexible hoses or but still have enough give to pull the macines out easily etc. self sealing...

Dishwasher & Washing Machine waste using a HEPvO

I would use a solvent weld to iron adaptor myself and leave the top open and as tall as is practical. I haven't yet tried a self sealing valve but assume it would be a suitable solution. As an aside, I am about to do a similar job myself and have been looking at the options. You...

    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Just struck lucky, Plumb Centre stock Dudley but not this item but they did have a loose one kicking round the stores which I got for £2.00 ! :D

    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Thanks, I will try them. At least they supply it with their cisterns I should have bought from them. Most of the outlets I've found on the net say BSP and 2" BSP is 11 TPI. The early one must have some foreign thread. The thread is flat bottomed and round topped as opposed to angular...

    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Yes, it is definitely 2" at least nominally. There is a 1 1/2 " base supplied with it as an alternative which has a fatter washer for close coupled applications. the 2" one is illustrated in the instructions fitted to a low level cistern and it has pipe stops inside the outlet. There is...

    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Yes it is the flush pipe nut that I need. I didn't want the MacDee valve as the cable design was flawed IMO although I wish I had gone to MacDee now. I notice the current Macdee valve is much more like most others on the market now with the cable above the water line. I would have thought...

    2" cistern outlet valve threads

Hi, this one is driving me mad I need to replace the outlet valve in a concealed Macadee cistern. After a couple of false starts at B & Q I bought a universal valve from a good plumber's merchant. The touble is that the old valve which I believe is obsolete has a 2" by 8 tpi thread and...

    Shower fan exhaust into chimney?

I have seen it done elsewhere but I have reservations about doing it myself, which is why I asked on here. It does rain most days in Bristol btw :D

    Shower fan exhaust into chimney?

I can get a duct to the facia of the main roof but it will have to have an additional 180 degree bend in it and be twice as long as going into the chimney, which is adjacent to the shower. My big mistake was not putting a flat duct in when I had the ceiling out of the rear addition and was...

    Shower fan exhaust into chimney?

There is no soffit, the facia board is flush with the wall. I could bring it out behind the gutter but the chimney route would be a shorter straighter duct if it is allowed. I would imagine that being warm the vapour would rise quickly out of the flue and any condensation would have time to...

Gap between bath and wall(help me seal it)

Do you have pipes coming down the wall behind the bath? If so, box them in with some 2X2 and Hardibacker board the width of the bath. Stop 5mm above the bath and seal with silicone. tbh I would do that even if there are no pipes. If you just want to bridge the gap, whatever you do it with...

    hair dye problem

You need something that dissolves hair dye but not rug dye! A tall order. Experiment on something else but maybe creme peroxide could be worth a try? I dye my wife's hair and any stray dye tends tto become permanent :(

    Mortise Lock - lost keys

A locksmith should also be able to cut a key to the lock, once it is out or change the wards to suit a new key. Saying that, if it is a cheapo lock, don't bother, take the opportunity to upgrade to an insurance approved lock. Consider attacking it with a disc cutter through the gap between the...

    Shower fan exhaust into chimney?

Hi, I have an in line shower fan to install and would like to know if it is permissible to exhaust the fan into a convenient disused flue via a piece of 4 inch pipe set in the chimney breast in the loft. The flue is topped with a chimney pot at the moment and will never be used for combustion.

    matt over silk

Don't do it in a room subject to high humidity. I painted yellow matt over dark green silk and no matter what I did the cracks kept coming back. Like a honey comb, Vinyl silk is the devil's p155 IMO.

any cure for sloping floors ?

Presumably you don't want to disturb the ceilings downstairs so I'd be inclined to live with the bedroom slope. For the ensuite you could sister the joists with similar thickness timber of a depth sufficent for the span to get a level base. Bolt the "sisters" to the existing joists with coach...

    Feed for porch light

I want to fit a light in my porch. The most convenient place to pick up a feed would be the consumer unit. Is it acceptable practice to connect to the same breaker as the downstairs lights? To me it seems no different to connecting into a ceiling rose or JB. Putting in a dedicated breaker...
