Many thanks for the replies, I ditched the X400 and used the X200 de-scaler thinking that scale build up was more likely to be the cause of the kettling as the radiators heat up fine. :?: One point I should have mentioned is that when the pump runs it does seem to vibrate more than it used...

Great, is it just a case of removing the old one and replacing exactly as is currently fitted ? Will it have presoldered joints (I'm not a diy fan).

Hi Chris, yes the bolt does go straight through and has a badly corroded wing nut underneath, doesn't sound too promising does it ? :roll:

I'm not sure if you can make it out from the pic below, but the syphon has a large base and one of the bolts go through it to fasten the cistern to the pan, could a modern syphon still be used ?
