    I understand - thank you.

    Tripping

I would say the length is about 60cm I know nothing about earthing arrangements? Not sure, there's no date on it, but it doesn't look old, but I have no idea

    Tripping

Ok thank you so much, I'll get that organised. Quick question - would sparky be testing the separate RCD to see if it's faulty, or would I ask them to just replace it?

    Tripping

We have an intermittent issue with this thing tripping. The meter tails are on one side and the other side is the CU. The CU looks fairly new. The tripping has been very intermittent - like every 9-12 months it might trip in the past, but in the last 24 hours it's tripped 4 times. I've never...

    Tightness test, allowable pressure drop

I've wondered for years why there is an allowable pressure drop when doing a tightness test? I get that small changes to temperature might affect the reading, but once stable after a couple of minutes and (eg) no-one is touching any pipe, why would a drop be allowed? I'm sure there is a reason...

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

...actually I don't think the salt container has anything to do with it so don't think removing it is needed. But still leaking and still confused.

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

Does anyone know how I can dismantle the salt collector? The drip seems to be coming from a compartment next to the salt collector (red circle), but I cannot see how the drip can be occurring until I remove the salt connector? It doesn't seem possible to dismantle it, and without doing so, I...

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

It's in the right location for the drip to be coming from here, but it can't be, as I taped up the cover to avoid any water going down there, and it's still dripping.

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

Yup - thank you. I saw where it was coming out on the cardboard, and then put it up on some chairs, so I could see under. It was an odd place (as I thought I'd discover a loose hose fitting as the culprit, or something), but I figured it was coming from around the salt area, and when I looked...

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

I'm just running a wash, with the base off sitting on cardboard to see if I can see where it's leaking?

Cause of float switch triggering - dishwasher

We have a dishwasher that, after a few washes (eg 6), triggers the float switch, which then stops the machine working, as water is collecting at the base of the machine. When it triggers, I can tip the dishwasher backwards (which has the effect of removing the excess water), enabling me to use...

Vaillant Turbomax Plus 824E … can a thermostat be connected? (Ed.)

Yes you are right 3 & 4 linked together - doesn’t seem to be a separate connection for L/N though?

Vaillant Turbomax Plus 824E … can a thermostat be connected? (Ed.)

Inherited an old boiler with apparently not any real controls (thermostat), it’s a Vallant Turbomax Plus 824E. I know this is old, but can a thermostat be connected to this? If so what model would work? I don’t need all singing, but I do need to have some controls rather than the cold-hot dial...

    Removing old pipe

Thank you. I’ve just come back to this thread as I can’t get a local plumber for love nor money to sort this (at least not before the New Year) however, one helpful chap mentioned that if I thought I was able, then maybe cut the pipe and fit a Philmac fitting. So I came back here to ask about...

    Removing old pipe

Thank you guys - I can go to that tee. I don’t need that “alkathene” pipe at all so that can go, and everything to the right, so I can either leave the tee in place or get rid of that too. Just don’t know how “tough” it will be to unscrew the thing.

    Removing old pipe

So, ideally, I’d like to cut the pipe where the tape measure is and then go to 22 or 15 copper. But would you need to tape a thread or is there a push fit option? Or is there a compression option?

    Removing old pipe

This pipe is leaking. I’d like to get the rusted and leaking part replaced. Can anyone tell me what this pipe is, and how I could feed into 22mm or 15mm copper pipe please? Thank you

Plywood floor before laying stick down planks

Ooh - ok. Is that because the 22mm ply isn’t flooring grade?
