    Sealing around extractor fan

Thanks everyone for your replies. Perhaps the attached BEFORE and AFTER photos will explain why I have made the ducting choices I have. I upgraded it from a 100mm bodge to a 150mm (or 22x90mm rectangle) duct. In short, I had to covert round to flat to fit through the joists in the loft. I used...

    Sealing around extractor fan

Hi everyone, I've tried to read as many past comments on this as possible, but am struggling to find a definite answer! Long story short I installed new ducting for a kitchen extractor fan. There is a small gap around the edges that needs to be filled to stop warm air getting into the loft...

    Crack In Bay Window 1950

Hi! Looking to purchase a house an spotted cracks on the bay windows 1st floor only. Think the windows were changed in 2007, house was built 1950's I believe. Seen quite a few threads about this being common with UPVC, but just after some second opinions on whether this is considered serious...

    Masonry Paint: What to use?

I want to make sure that I'm putting the best product possible on. Unsure what previous owners used so am taking as much off as I can before re-painting. Emperor seems to have excellent breathability so was going to choose that, on the pretense that it's better than standard acrylic-bases...

    Masonry Paint: What to use?

It's a 70's build with paint on the brickwork directly - so I presume fine?

    Painted Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

Thank you. That was my fear. If we do buy the property my thinking was to strip as much as the old paint off, and re-paint with Emperor water repellent breathable paint. Unfortunately the other houses on the road are all painted so it can't be the odd one out and bare.

    Painted Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

It's cavity wall if that helps? Thank you for your advice/thoughts! Definitely peeling off

    Painted Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

Thank you for your response! In terms of stripping it, it would be with a view to repaint it with breathable masonry paint and repoint the brickwork if needed. But the more I look into it the more it seems this would be a huge cost! Thanks again for your thoughts

    Painted Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

Of course, but a decent survey is good money and I'd rather guage as many issues now before employing a surveyor. It's a big and scary decision so am questioning a lot! But no I would not turn down a house due to wallpaper, but I might turn one down if external paint has damaged the bricks and...

    Painted Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

All houses on this road are the same! Presume it was built like this. Would you avoid?

    Painted External Brickwork - Dealbreaker?

Hi there, I am in the process of purchasing a property and have just started to consider the fact the lower half of the external brickwork has been painted white. As you can see from these pictures there is definitely some peeling going on. My main concern is damp and bricks failing from water...

    1972 Uneven Brickwork

Ah of course! Yes thank you for the advice will bear it mind. The exterior also has 2x airbricks on the white painted sections (not shown in pics). I am under the impression these become redundant once CWI is in?
