    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Many thanks robinbanks and sorry, cdbe, for glossing over your post. Truth is I have never looked into rigid insulation - will do that asap. I take it 100mm of the rigid stuff is equivalent to 200mm (or more?) of the popular, rolled out wool type stuff? If it is, and there's no requirement for...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

After a lot of had scratching and debate, I've decided to go with the framework using 4x2s. This will give 200mm insulation everywhere, and I will lay out an extra 100mm to unboarded areas. The house is cold, but this should be sufficient to slow down the rate of heat loss. New...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

See post Yes, in the original post I meant the generic term 'loft legs'. I had only had heard about the poorer versions of loft legs from Dial etc. See my post before yours. More than happy to learn about better versions. So, cheers all! My big concern is how on earth will I get the floor...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

You're right; it's because I saw pictures of these awful 'Dial'? banded legs that had been almost destroyed over time by boarding/storage lol. I will see what the joiner says tonight (if he's good value), otherwise 15-18 boxes of Loftlegs it is. Best to get more and return unused ones I guess...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Horrible day. Anyway...bit late to the party; I just found out there's also a system called loftlegs. Like a loftzone, but without the thin metal beams on top. With both methods I would have to get a circular saw for the boards. I am thinking to go without the T&G though as access looks to be of...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Thanks v much! That gives me a lot of confidence. If the circular saw is not difficult to use then I will do just that. Just got to decide between loftzone (very little weight + should be quicker) or the DIY timber subframe. Revising all day today. After tomorrow's exam I will work it all out.

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Defo up for considering it. After my exam on Monday I will go back up and draw up some kinda plan. Just read the steel beam on the loft zone system is very thin so it can be cut which is great. Also, the minimal use of equipment and speed at which it can potentially be done is drawing me to...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Sorry mate, I will reduce length of the original post if the site lets me later. I have an exam on Monday so I'm just a bit occupied. Looking to have a timber subframe rather than any kind of plastic leg (long story which I will not bore you with).

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Update: 2nd quote received today: Just over £2,500 (300mm insulation with this company). They itemised some of the jobs. Their total boarding costs came to £1500 including the timber subframe but not much detail. I assume they will be using 8x2s (on top of current 4x2s) to make a height of...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

Hi all A genuine ‘thank you’ to the online DIY community for your help. After a lot of reading, I had no need to start a new thread to redo the silicone, replace a leaking kitchen tap, replace some window handles, and fix a sliding door. I don’t have any DIY skills or knowledge (or some of the...
