    Porch permitted sizes

I'm considering something similar but more of an oak framed storm shelter for wellies etc. For the purposes of PD am I right is saying there's no difference between this and an enclosed porch, and it's the same 3m2 footprint limit?

Volume of hardcore in bulk bag of MoT

Nice. Shame you waited until the twilight of my diy career to tell me that one.

Volume of hardcore in bulk bag of MoT

Hi Chaps, I'm just working out a hardcore order for a patio. Is it fair to say that 1 bulk bag of MoT will wack down to 0.5 cubic metres of volume? Cheers!

    Lifting tongs for porcelain slabs

Ps the ones I'm taking up are 40mm thick and concrete. Now that's heavy, and yes my back can feel it!

    Lifting tongs for porcelain slabs

Yes, about 20kg sounds about right. Even with a powered suction handle I'll still be taking the full weight though. What's the alternative?

    Lifting tongs for porcelain slabs

I need to lay a bunch of 600x900 porcelain slabs. They're 20mm thick so not particularly heavy but due to the 5mm grout gap I'm not sure how to drop them in to place. I don't want to pay 300 pounds for a suction handle if I can avoid it. Do the 30 quid lifting tongs tend to work okay with...

Disappointed. I thought this was a thread about another corrupt prime minister.

    Building Control Company Lost Licence

My local authority has just re-insourced its building control services. For a long as i can remember these had been outsourced to agency that was shared between it and two other local authorities. This happened half way through two jobs that I've had ongoing for the last three years, and...

    Another mortar request

Do you mean the style of pointing or the actual mortar mix? The pointing style is a rough attempt at 'weatherstruck'. There will be various YouTube vids showing how that's done.

Struggling to get UFH brass cone to seal.

Hi, I'm attempting to fit a brand new manifold kit to a brand new pipe run. The feed pipe seems to be leak free, but the return pipe is dripping and I can't get it to seal. The part of the brass cone that slots inside the pipe has two orings and is nice and tight. The larger oring looks okay...

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

Yes, hence my original suggestion that he applies on his mates behalf.

Solar panels BC/roof structural survey - online options?

Could you share a link? I see these at around £200, versus the £50 ex farm

Solar panels BC/roof structural survey - online options?

Yes exactly. Plus I've read that the tipping point had been reached where PV is now so cheap that even though solar thermal will capture more energy it ends up being more expensive. Also our upstairs UFH is electric, so it fits in that respect. It sounds like you're ahead of me in terms of...

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

I don't understand what would be false about it. I put Freddies address on the form for the property, my name and address as the applicant, and then say that I don't own the property. This must happen all the time when people apply before buying a property?

Solar panels BC/roof structural survey - online options?

I'm considering a similar non grid tie diy install. I'm currently thinking of dumping it all in to the hot water cylinder and the ensuite UFH circuits. I think I can get a two year payback using ex solar farm panels, depending on how future proof I go on the inverters. A decent return, as you...

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

He wouldn't be falsifying anything would he? For example I could apply for a rear extension on mercury towers, and if granted , you or I could then build said extension?

Re: Planning Application - Does the name actually matter?

Anyone can apply for permission though, even if you don't own the property, so why don't you apply on your mate's behalf as an early crimbo present?

    Front fence and enforcement notice

Can you apply for a permitted development lawful development certificate for the remainder of the fence and then see how confused they get? How could they say no?

System/pump design when merging one-pipe and two-pipe systems

Interesting. I'll add a gate valve to the new two pipe loop too then and will have covered my bases as you say.
