    Building Control

Hi I had BC out today to inspect a 2 story extension we've had built, builder did the shell and we did the internal ourselves, hes noted 3 items which we need to address, 2 of which I'm curious about. We have smoke detectors in the garage (attached), utility room, landing, new bedroom and...

    Shower leaking

Hi We’ve had a small leak from the shower and I’m trying to work out the extent of the repair required. It appears the corner bead is rusty, so does this need removing or can it be repaired at all? Thanks

    Fire Door

Thanks, it doesn’t have a closer, building control may request it does. I was wondering about fire foam but wasn’t sure if it would be accepted. I’ll have a look at the mineral wool route first. Thanks

    Fire Door

Hi I have a fire door fitted between an attached garage and utility room, it’s plastered on the utility room side but not the garage and I suspect building control will want something in the gaps. Any idea what I can use, hinge side there is room for fire board but it’s only 50mm, there’s a...

    Squeaky Stairs

Hi I’ve had a look at the stairs and looking for more advice. from the underside the issue seems to be movement between the step and riser, someone has previously attempted to glue and screw but it’s failed, I’ve been able to tap a wedge between the two. I’ve attached a photo, does anyone...

    Squeaky Stairs

Hi I’m attempting to fix the squeaky stair issue from underneath the stairs, the house was built in the 80’s and over the last couple of years they have got worse. I’ve seen a could of bits online but wondered what’s the best way, I was thinking glue round the joins and screw a 2x2 to the...

    Cutting Roof Trusses

Hi not sure if this would be better in the carpentry forum or not... I purchased my house with and extension already built in 2008, I want to remove the ceiling a vault it which would mean cutting away the ceiling joists. Would I need a roofer to look at it to determine if additional supports...

    Drainage in existing driveway

Mmm, yes reading into it I believe the soak away must by 5m from the house. fitting an Aco and running a drain off down the side of the house isn’t the worst idea to be honest, but if work but doable thanks

    Drainage in existing driveway

Hi I have a detached house and the drive slopes down towards the garage with no drainage in front of the garage, the water runs down the drive into the path to the side of the garage. so I want to put a Aco drain in front of the garage but not sure where I can run the water to, there isn’t any...

    Raised bed lining

Thanks I’ll get some ordered, had I realised I would have fitted it as I built it! There is a gap between the soil and the timber at the moment so if I were to drop it down the gap I could fix the top and the bottom would have to be held with the soil

    Raised bed lining

Hi I’ve built a raised bed which is a retaining wall as well, i was talking to a friend who said I should line the inside of the sleepers, just looking for advice, picture below. I was initially thinking of putting gravel between the soil and the sleeper so it just drains but now I’m not so...

    Green star i24

Hi I have a Greenstar i24 boiler which I noticed had the reset light flashing, the pressure was on 0 - it’s in the loft so I hadn’t noticed it. I filled it back up and pressed reset for 3 seconds, it tries to fire up but it locks out again Any ideas or do I need someone out? thanks

    What kind of base

What should I lay sleepers onto, I can’t imagine straight onto soil is ideal so I was thinking of concrete square pads at the end of each sleep so they have some support is the best way or lay a try mix under the sleepers so it goes off over time Thanks
