Which wire is live and which is neutral?

It’s actually brown (not red) connected to the earth, but that’s probably not the point. So you don’t recommend I connect the new fixture (exactly as the old pendant)? I reconnected the old pendant back with live and neutral and it works fine. I decided to hold off from connecting the new...

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

And here is a clear pic of all the wires in the ceiling together. The blue and the brown wires at the bottom of the pic belong to the light pendant. Do I simply connect it as the old pendant is currently i.e. just the live and neutral? Should I try and see by connecting just the live and...

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Here is a pic of the earth wire. You can see one end is the green and yellow and at the other end is a brown cable (sorry not red as I had mistakenly stated earlier). In any case, both ends of the connector block are occupied.

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Yes, connector blocks. The earth one you saw from the ceiling has both connectors on the block already occupied. I pulled it out a bit from the ceiling and what I see is the earth wire going into it at one end and a red one at the other.

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

The thing is, the earth (yellow/green) in the ceiling does not have a slot available to connect anything to. One of the two slots has the earth connection while the other end seems to be a red cabled wire connected to it. No free slot. Does this mean the earth connection on the fan/light can be...

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

I think it will be better if the wall switch needs to be on before the remote is used. I want to obviously be able to on and off using the remote. But it should be on at the wall first. If the wall is off, it shouldn’t be turned on with just remote. If this is the case, do I need to connect all...

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Here is a pic of the entire electronics inside the fixture. By the way, the current light is a standard pendant. Only the live and neutral were connected to it.

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

I imagine the wall switch. There is a supplied remote with it as well. The remote has an on off switch as well as well as controls for fan speed and light brightness

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Do I need to connect earth to the fan/light fixture or just live and neutral? Are all three required?

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Here is a pic of the connections on the new fixture. According to the instructions supplied with it, I think it requires a live, neutral and earth connection. The only problems is, the earth connection (the yellow and green multi coloured) in the ceiling seem to be tied up. It’s maybe connected...

I’ll put up a pic of the connections for the new light/fan a little later

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Thanks guys for the quick response. I just connect the cable you labelled L to the live slot on the new fan/light and the N to the neutral slot. Is this right? I am not a complete novice with electrics but want to make sure from others who are electricians or have a lot of experience with electrics.

Which wire is live and which is neutral?

Hi everyone, I need some help fitting a new fan/light fixture to the ceiling. The fixture requires a live and neutral connection. In the ceiling where I currently have a standard light pendant connected, the wires available are the following. There is a black wire, there is a brown wire (but it...
