Suitable wood for shelves in a garden shed?

Hi All, Probably a very silly question, but here goes anyway... I have a new shed (10 x 6) and I want to put some shelves up. I'm intending to put some metal support racks onto the structural uprights of the shed wall so that I can mount movable shelf supports and then use *some* sort of...

Cracks in plaster walls - how to decorate?

Spent today stripping some horrible textured wallpaper from my hall stairs and landing. I want to redocorate by painting, but I'm unsure whether to paint directly onto the walls or to line them first. Would rather not paper the stairs, but if I have to... Anyway, the walls underneath have...

    Removing Polystyrene tile Adhesive

This may not be timely, but in case anyone comes across this while searching... I didi this a few years ago and found that heating it worked well. The burning smell from the heatgun on the adhesive did my head in though so I did it with a steamer - quick and easy.

Insulation question: meter cupboard under stairs...

Looking for some advice on insulation, I hope this is the right forum, apologies if not. I've had my loft and cavities insulated, but I've still got problems with cold/heat loss in my stair well. The problem is that my meter cupboard is accessible from the house exterior via a pair of...

    Bathroom tiling

We want to put a shower in over our bath. Currently there's a 2 foot height of tiling around the bath and the rest of the room is painted with kitchen and bathroom emulsion on a plastered brick wall. Will I be okay to sugar soap the emulsion to clean it off and then tile straight on to...

I think I've got a leak after new CH installed

Hi guys, a quick update for everyone who's helped: The plumber's retruned today and has dug the floor up where I'd identified the leak. It turns out there was a 4cm hairline crack in the pipe going from the boiler to the radiator. The offending bit of copper's been removed and replaced and...

I think I've got a leak after new CH installed

I figured I was losing 2-3 litres each time, but I've filled it up 5 times now, so wherever this leak is it's absorbed, or soaked-away, 5-15 litres in total without showing any visible evidence other than a really small damp patch under the carpet by one rad. I don't think it's the PRV, but...

I think I've got a leak after new CH installed

I'll try that thanks Tony. Is it likely to be the heat exchanger on a brand new boiler? I'm struggling to see how 10-15 litres of water could soak away from a pipe in concrete, but I can't think of many other alternatives. I think I might have found a small leak coming out of the floor by...

I think I've got a leak after new CH installed

Excellent help guys. I'm very grateful. I'll try to check out the possibility of a leak in the heat exchanger, and I'll have a listen to the pipework the next time we fill the system up. Judging by the amount of water that's needed to fill the system after it's depressurised I reckon that...

I think I've got a leak after new CH installed

I've checked the threads and done a search and I don't *think* this has been covered before, but aplogies if it has. I've just had an old open CH system with hot water tank replaced by a closed combi boiler system (Vaillant ecotec 831). The system was powerflushed as part of the...
