Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Yeah, that was me trying to figure out if that's what he was quoting. There seemed to be around 10 days (two working weeks) or labour within the quote.

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Yes, I calculated the number of days by guessing the day rate. They may well be charging me for 5 day @£500/day, although that would seem extremely steep.

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

To be perfectly honest, it's not really about the amount of money involved. I can't do much about the market rate, I just want to avoid being taken advantage of by an above-market rate price. So if the market rate is £2000, or £2650 or whatever, that's what I will pay, I just don't want to be...

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Fair enough, I will get another quote then. I didn't realise the cost could vary so dramatically, I thought it would be possible to quote to within +/- £800 or so.

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Yes, I agree with what you are saying. You seem to have completely mis-understood though (or maybe I wasn't clear enough). I am not looking for a quote online, I am just trying to see if I am being ripped off or not. The radiators / valves were not specified by me, they were the ones...

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

I thought this. It does appear to be a common tactic, quote high if you don't want the job.

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Could it potentially take two weeks just for piping in 9 rads?

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

I could take the floors up myself and put them back in less than two hours, so I imagine an experienced plumber could do it in less time.

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Well, almost labour only. They will have to supply the copper pipe. This is why I am questioning it. Even if they had quoted on £250/day, is it really 10 days work for an experienced plumber? What would you charge / expect for that kind of job?

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

I don't want it to be as cheap as possible. I just don't want to pay way over the going rate for the job. The price is the price, I just don't want to pay 1.5x the price or 2x the price, if you know what I mean. Agreed. I don't want to "pay cheap", I just want to pay the going rate and not a...

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Thanks. Yes, that would be the most accurate way of gauging the cost, but I don't have time to wait for them to come round and then issue the quotes etc due to the urgency of the project. Could you perhaps tell me what kind of day rate I could expect for this type of job then?

Cost of installing 9 radiators, looking to compare against quoted price

Could someone please advise on the rough cost of installing 9 radiators, 5 upstairs and 4 downstairs with the downstairs 4 having pipework chased in to the walls? Main run is 22mm pipe and 15mm to each radiator, the 22mm pipe feeds from an airing cupboard upstairs. The house is a typical three...

    Replacement Coving

I need to replace a piece of coving. Obviously this would have to match the existing coving. Is coving more or less standardised? I have looked online but can'r seem to see an exact match. I have attached a picture, can anyone recognise this? Size is approx, 70mm(H) and 60mm (W). comments...

    Plastering around window

Thanks for your input ! This is an old window, they are just plastering around it. The batten they have fitted is merely to hold up the plaster board temporarily, it's not fixed. I can see it's curved, so it looks like their plan isn't working!

    Plastering around window

Thanks Roy :) are you a plasterer? Could you tell me the proper way this should be done? If I don't come prepared, they will tell me plasterers have been doing it like that for years...!

    Plastering around window

I am having some plastering done, I went to check on progress this afternoon. Just wanted to check if the method they are using to 'build up the area around the window is suitable or not. Comments please.

    Advice on window frame construction

Hi, yes. Other houses in the street have double sash Windows. There is an outer lintel (i had in replaced with a steel angle due to decay. If the side bricks and timber filler piece are not required, would a timber frame be a suitable replacement?
