Looking for some gloss white laminate

Hi, I have recently acquired some 80's chairs that are in need of a bit of a makeover! They are made of ply that has been formed to give the back and the seat a gently curve across the main plain and then returning to create some sides as well. What I am looking to do is to cover the...

    Kitchen/diner refurb

Be careful placing the hob up against a full height unit as you have. Where will the saucepan handles go when cooking! Will have to be over the ring in-front/behind depending on ring you are using. It's a minor niggle but know of people who have not thought of this until after and then regret...

    Kitchen extension and layout help

I like the three metre personally. Only thing with both is that you have a great view out of the back of the house and no way of sitting there and looking out. My suggestion would be thus.... Site the loo under the stairs - if possible Take the extension full width across at three metres...

Your personal opinion on a tiled lounge + kitchen, please

If your not thinking of selling up for some time then go for it. It's your place after all. If your going to sell up soonish it will alienate a lot of potential buyers especially any with kids (or thinking of having them). From experience the comments on noise ring true, loudly, though.

Thanks ^woody^, will be ordering this book soon. Like the box beams as I would want to insulate it so it can be used all year round. Wife now talking of adding in a wood burner so need to make a concrete pad/hearth on the inside for this to sit etc etc.

Help - my new joists arent level

The timbers were probably bowed when they installed them. A 5mm bow in the wood gives 10mm between them if they are laid one up and one down. They may just have to turn some of them upside down so they are all bowed upwards towards the ceiling. Once you have the flooring and furniture in the...

    Where laminate floor meets stairs

Hi, I would pull away the carpet and leave the standard 6-8mm at the bottom of the first step. The carpet fitters will be able to disguise this when you have the new carpet laid. I wouldn't even consider cutting the string on the stairs as this is what holds the stairs up and would...

    floored by flooring

Hi, New one on me this but here goes. People do put hardboard down under carpet but this to prevent uneven wear on the carpet from uneven floorboards. I think it would be worth checking this out further as to why (H & S?), maybe ask your local planning office if it is required! I...

    Painting Gloss Skirting Boards

Hi, When I've used gloss in the past I have followed the below to get good result's Don't put the paint on too thick, you will get runs. Two or three thinner coats will be better Lay the paint of as it starts to dry, basically drag a near dry brush across the surface to help knock down...

    Fags smell from next door

Hi, You say you have ripped up the carpets, in older houses there are airbricks/gaps in brickwork between the houses under the floor. If you have no carpets down the smell will most likely be carrying through there. You can't block theses gaps as the airflow is required to prevent damp...
