Adhesive / Sealant coming through paint

I am a decorator- I have encountered caulks that (are painted over) and discolour years down the line- to be honest- I have no idea why it happens. When faced with it, I apply a coat of of Zinsser BIN. and then paint another coat of emulsion over the top. That seems to work as a barrier.

Green paint on old internal wall (Ed.)

The green should not leech through. Just paper over it if you are happy that the wall is flat enough.

What to use to fill hole

As a decorator, I respectfully disagree with @Lower . Sorry @Lower ... Easifill has little to no cement in it. If it gets wet, it becomes soft. The mould suggests that there are possibly problems with condensation. A cement based filler such as Toupret will not break down if the surface...

Green paint on old internal wall (Ed.)

Lining paper is great as a surface that can be sanded back. The caveat being that you use a random orbital sander connected to a dust extractor. The lining paper will be thicker than the old paint ridges, meaning that you can sand it without needing to be concerned about cutting in to the...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

That is good question. I have an 30+ year old corded metabo hammer drill. I haven't noticed a deterioration in the efficiency of the hammer feature, but I seldom use the drill anymore. In the above image, parts 53 and 50 look like they are the hammer action components. I guess in time the...

    Patchy ceiling again!

I use it on stone window sills before backfilling with toupret filler or two pack. Unlike PVA, if there is water ingress, it doesn't re-emulsify like PVA would.

Will laquer stop outdoor colour fading?

I am not aware of any clear coating that effectively blocks the UV light from penetrating below the surface. Exterior coatings are designed to absorb the energy from UV light- they basically distribute the energy across the coating. Years ago a customer asked me to sand back their cedar...

    Patchy ceiling again!

You can paint over SBR, however drying times will be longer. That is true of all stain blocker-type products though.

    Do slotted isolating valves fail

These days I only use the Pegler lever valves. I had a Toolstation lever valve that snapped 3 years down the line. It caused £5k of damage. I posted images here and others pointed to the granular structure of the metal in the break.

    Do slotted isolating valves fail

Not sure about the age. In excess of 10 years. Since installation it had only been turned off once previously (possibly 4 years ago).

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Actually it stands for Steck – Dreh – Sitz ("Insert – Drill – Attachment"). Not surprisingly, Bosch (who invented it in 1975) used a German acronym. According to Wikipedia, Bosch use "Special Direct System" in non-german speaking countries...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

A non sds drill- as it rotates, the drill bit momentarily drops back towards you. It is you pushing against the drill that forces it forward again. A SDS drill actually fires the drill bit forward. Not the best explanation. If you run either drill without touching the wall you will see that...

    Do slotted isolating valves fail

I have been trying to troubleshoot my mum's bath/shower valve. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/crosswater-3-way-thermostatic-valve-90-mins-to-run-a-bath.625578/#post-5679705 Today, I used a slotted screwdriver to close the two isolating valves. I pulled the thermostatic cartridge out and...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

I keep a set of the CLY-9 s in my rucksack. They are great for soft bricks but, to date, I have never encountered a reinforced concrete lintel that they would even dent. I understand the OP not wanting to buy a SDS drill, but it looks like their only option. And as per my earlier post, I have...

Which tool to chase walls for wiring (Ed.)

My internal walls are cinder blocks with an extremely hard finish. The exterior and party walls seem to be flettons or possibly engineering bricks. I once spent 20 mins trying to drill a 7mm hole with a corded hammer drill. It started to glow red and then bent. I gave up and purchased a SDS...

Which tool to chase walls for wiring (Ed.)

I though than another reason for using it was it protected the cable if cracks appeared in the wall.

    Zinsser BIN stain blocker

Ideally, you would remove as much as possible before repainting. Unfortunately, you might not get away with trying you touch in the ceiling and may need to coat the whole ceiling.

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

You need a SDS drill. Alternatively you might be able to use diamond core bits but you will need to snap the cores as you work away, and a 7mm diamond bit will probably only go 35(?)mm deep. Oh, and if you hit a reinforcing bar, that might shear the head off a regular SDS bit. I use the Makita...

Cutting up (and getting rid of) a cold water storage tank in the loft.

I wouldn't want to jigsaw that. The jigsaw may well end up bouncing a lot. Snips sound like a better option.
