Tips on how to safely remove this light??

Are you planning to put the fitting back? If yes, I would just take the fuse out of the holder (in the fused switch unit) in the meantime.

    Plugs already included with appliances

I started high school in 82- we were never taught how to change plugs. I did metal work for a month and wood work for about a year. Neither taught me anything useful.

Are you taking the pee? You cannot weight load on the appliance under it.

How to repair laminate worktop damage

As above, the cost of a repair might be prohibitive. And at best, might be temporary. The damage up to the tiling- I cant see how they are at fault for that.

Is this rot and what can I do about it?

I cannot see where the water ingress is from. Years ago, when I built my garage I was gifted a 4 inch tall timber door step. It was so deep, and set so far down that water used to seep under it. I drilled a series of holes in to the doorstep and squirted in expanding foam (under pressure). The...

    Unusual bolt from boat upholstery

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252846993632?chn=ps&_ul=GB&var=551863296811 Edit... Sorry, you seem asking for one with a threaded machine screw/rod connected? Do you need a t-nut at both ends? If yes why not purchase two and use a M5 machine screw with a dome or pan head and cut it to length...

    Boss fell into soil stack

That sounds expensive (£1k+ ?). And how will you deal with the waste pipe coming out of the wall? I am only guessing, but I suspect that painting the existing soil pipe (where salavable), will help to dissipate the UV light and prolong the life of nay new fittings.

Using mortar tone - which sand

And building sand varies massively in colour depending on the supplier. A mate of mine is an extremely good pointer over the years he has got to know which retailers sell the colour of building sand that he wants.

    Unpleasant smell in 2 bathrooms

What kind of problems do they cause? The toilet in my extension has an AAV. The vertical soil pipe is only about 3ft long and about 50cm from the manhole cover on a sewer pipe shared by 4 terraced buildings.

    Help! Damp cause by neighbours

Your DPC should be lower than the ground floor joists in your home. It should be lower to prevent moisture wicking up to the timber. You will need to use a tape measure to check. I am not sure how tall your joists are. Given the age, I would guess 10 or 12" but I am only guessing In the...

    Consumer unit in garage

I am not an electrician..... When I built my garage I got the electrician to run SWA to a new CU in the garage. I fitted about 15(?) two gang sockets, including exterior sockers and internal/external lighting (yeah- overkill). I liked the fact that I could isolate each circuit as required...

    Help! Damp cause by neighbours

As above. I cannot see anything wrong that your neighbour has done. The pathway looks pretty old. Again, as above, bricks below the damp proof course will be wet regardless of what your neighbour has done with their garden.

    Satinwood and raised grain

The second of Jan 2010, I recoated a cabinet that I had painted for a customer 7 years previously. I turned up the following day, the paint was still tacky. From that point onwards, over the colder months, I now routinely add terebene. I had never used it prior to 2010. That said, after a...

    Satinwood and raised grain

As others have said, it looks like you applied the second coat too soon. After it is hard enough to sand flat, you can add some oxidising agent to the paint to speed up curing times. eg terebene https://www.decoratingdirect.co.uk/viewprod/t/TEREBINE_DRIERS/

    Dipping toe into painting

As @Lower says, in order to be compliant, a paint has to have no more than a given amount of VOCs I have no idea why NutJob thinks that 2K paints are not compliant. Perhaps he saw something to that effect on Youtube. I use 2K (isocyanate) paints/lacquers from time to time...

    Unpleasant smell in 2 bathrooms

I am not a plumber- I am not a plumber, but I have worked in houses where flushing the loo sucked the water out of the trap on the bath and let the sewer fumes to escape out of the bath. As a test, I would pour some water back in to the bath, and the smell ceased. I agree that I sounds...
