    Stud Wall advice

Hi, I always screw stud walls together. If you need to adjust it whilst constructing it you can simply undo them. Plus they never ride out. Use 12.5mm plasterboard and screw them to the studs. Again, screws dont ride out so the heads wont popthe plaster.

    cracks

If the flexible decorators caulk does not work use mastic but only if you are papering over the top as paint alone will not adhere to mastic. Wet a scraper and smooth over the mastic. Make sure you rake out the crack first to get a better depth of mastic into the crack.

Thoughts on securing fence posts with spikes

Hi, Why would it be a pain to dig holes? Bushes trees etc? or debris in ground etc? I tend not to use metposts as they tend to twist on installation and with a six foot high fence panel dont give that much support. If you want a good job that will last, concrete all the way.

    concrete driveway

Pathways and shed bases should be 100mm / 4 inches and driveways must be at least 150mm / 6 inches thick. You can reduce the thickness of the concrete to 4 inches if you add steel re-enforcing mesh into it but i would personally go for 6 inches. You would therefore need 1 cubic metre of concrete.

Hi, Wood glue all the way. It is so strong when set and you will break the timber before you can break the join. As for priming MDF, YES YES YES. You can buy water based mdf primer which dries fairly quickly and wont peel off. Use a mini roller with a foam sleeve for best finishing results.

    New decking

Hi RMS, I set the top of the 6 x 2 joists flush with the top of the 4 x 2 joists the use a decking board as a fascia board. One more thing to bear in mind is the time of year that you are constructing your deck. Timber expands and contracts, so allow for expansion of the boards in wet...

Wooden Window Repairs - the Wood side of things.

If you want to get putty off, use a hot air gun but be carefull not to burn the wood or break the glass. The GENTLE heat from the gun softens the putty and can be removed with a wood chisel. I refurbed two sash windows last week using this method and didnt break any glass :) As for treating...
