    Washer/dryer clearance spaces

Hi, I'm having to replace an integrated washer/dryer which was in place when I bought this flat and I'm wondering if I need to leave any clearance space around the appliance - between it and the kitchen carpentry. Could use some advice, thanks.

    Which trade?

Hi Breesey, The shower was in the house before I bought it so I don't know the model - just a serial number - A0329, a Heritage Thermostatic. Because I don't know how old it is or how it was installed, its more difficult to get an idea of exactly what is wrong with it. Thanks, Lagu.

    Which trade?

Thanks for the answers. I was hoping to keep the costs down but from what you say maybe I'll end up needing to replace the whole shower. I just want to get a handle on the extent of the thing before I call in a professional - professional fees! - just a few weeks after Christmas is too much. Lagu

    Which trade?

Hi guys, This is a silly question I know but I could do with your advice on it. My Heritage thermostatic shower has begun to run tepid, not to say cold, and I gather from a previous thread on the forum I may need to get the thermostatic cartridge replaced. My problem is would it be a plumber...

    Paint Smell

Hi Zampa, no its not a particularly Scottish word. Its just one of the thousands of old words that still have some relevance now, but probably I should have used 'window recess' in the first place. I don't have a picture, just a dictionary definition. Bye, Lagu

    Paint Smell

Zampa, in response to your last posting an embrasure is "... bevelling of wall at sides of door or window ....". Thanks for taking the time to read this thread. Lagu.

    Paint Smell

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try an onion for a couple of days to see if it will still disperse the odour. Joe90 look in your dictionary - embrasure has more than one definition. Thanks again, Lagu

    Paint Smell

Hi Guys, I painted a wooden window embrasure with oil based paint about 4 weekends ago and the background paint smell is still lingering in the room. The window is always kept open - so does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get rid of the smell? Thanks, Lagu

    Installing a Wall Lantern

Thank you for the info Breezer. Now I can go ahead and wire it up. I live in a tenement which has no stair lighting except for the lanterns that each householder installs by their outer doors. These have to be switched on and off as it gets dark; hence I thought a motion sensor light would be...

    Installing a Wall Lantern

Hi Experts, I wonder if anyone can give me some info. I've bought an external wall light with a PIR movement sensor to replace an existing wall light in a communal stairway. The instructions for the new light say that it should be connected to a 3 amp double-poled switched fused spur. The...

    Socket Design

Thanks guys. I've replaced the socket with another one which has a different design i.e. the live and neutral holes are on the opposite sides from the first one I fitted. I thought that as long as I didn't have any wires touching then it would be safe but obviously there is more circuitry on...

    Socket Design

I've been replacing my gold coloured double sockets with chrome ones which are layed out slightly differently at the back where the cables are fitted into place. The cables have been cut very, very short and I've had to put the live wires in the hole market neutral and the neutral wires in the...
