I can't loosen my packing nut!

Thanks for replying. I'm using an adjustable spanner with the screwy thing on it (spot the professional!). I've tried with all my might, but the outside of the nut has started to wear down the more force I've applied. Any suggestions?

I can't loosen my packing nut!

Hi all. I'm having problems loosening the packing nut on a bath tap. The cold one was fine, but there's a lot of gunk around the hot and it simply won't budge. I'm not going to use my adjustable spanner anymore as the nut is wearing down with every pull. Should I use WD40? Can anyone...

Is it necessary to concrete met posts?

My problem is that my soil is rocky. I've tried digging down but can only reach about 35cm. I had booked a hole borer for tomorrow, but thanks to the incompetence of HSS Hire I had to cancel that plan. The tool you recommended probably won't help me get the depth I require. Nevermind...

Is it necessary to concrete met posts?

Many thanks for your reply; much appreciated. I'm using met posts with a 60cm spike depth and the fence is feather board at 1.8m high. My plan is to space the posts approx 1.0m apart. I am also planning to hire a post borer from HSS to reach the required depth as the ground is quite...

Is it necessary to concrete met posts?

Hi all. I'm aiming to finally finish my fence during the good weather this week. My problem with previous attempts has been a lack of depth with my post foundations. The ground in my garden becomes saturated so easily that concrete just wobbles around in the earth and the whole fence becomes...

Hotpoint Aquarius WD640 - no display showing

Thanks for your reply; excuse my late response. The 'Time Saver' light has been coming on randomly. The display itself is clear; we had the circuit board replaced 2 years ago. Now, the programmes all show up, but the machine won't start. All very strange!

Living Room Lights - one last problem

Position is continuity(?) Both lights are supposed to come on when either switch is activated. I was advised to buy the multimeter to help me identify which wire is which. On the other fitting, one of the reds is combined with the yellow wire. Should this be the case in this fitting?

Living Room Lights - one last problem

Thank you so much for replying. I am convinced this has to beb very easy to solve. Yup. It's a two way thingy. Each switch turns on both living room lights. One of them works fine. The other doesn't. My problem is that the wires got mixed up when I stupidly tried to fix a new fitting a...

Living Room Lights - one last problem

Please can someone help? I have tested the red and yellow wires as advised earlier in the post. One of the red wires shows no activity at all, even when either switch is on or off. The other brings numbers onto to screen and the one switch makes it beep. All I need to know is how to...

Living Room Lights - one last problem

Right. Just done continuity test. The yellow and red (from the blue, yellow and red combo) make a noise. The other red (from the black, red and earth combo) and yellow makes no noise. Does this mean anything?

Living Room Lights - one last problem

Hi folks, I have my multimeter - yellow box with red and black leads; loads of symbols I have forgotten since GCSE Physics! Is it advisable to have someone with me whilst I do this? I'm on my own today, but my wife will be able to activate switches for me tomorrow. Since my last post I...
