    HWC conundrum

the hot feed comes up from the boiler to the valve. The valve then diverts it either down below the floor (to the radiators?) or up and into the cylinder about half way up its side. The underneath of the cylinder itself is cold, yet the pipe feeding into it is hot, proper hot not residual...

    HWC conundrum

I can`t seem to get any hot water out of my taps despite the boiler working fine, the pump is fine and the pipe going via the motorised valve into the cylinder is hot. Therefore surely I should be getting hot water out - providing there`s no huge leak out the cylinder. Any suggestions very much...

Wax polish vs Varnish for stair and banister rails

I`ve just finished stripping the varnish of the banister and they`re sanded up ready to be finished. However, I don`t really want to put gloss or matt varnish back on and the only alternative I know of is to apply a wax finish. My questions are : varnish is easy to wipe clean - is wax...

    Bona professional continuous belt sanders

Has anyone had any experience of these m/cs for sanding softwood floors? The hire places claim they are much easier to use and virtually dust free. I`ve heard several scare stories about the traditional drum sanders and I`m a bit wary of them. These belt sanders I`m talking about are ones you...

    Asthmatic chicken behind my freezer

there`s not really a chicken but it does sound like it. The m/c involved is a Zanussi ZNB 3240 frost free fridge freezer and around a month old. The wheezing from the back is frequent but not constant, not loud but clearly audible. I though I`d ask here before all the pallaver of calling Currys...

    Switchmaster 900

Thanks for the prompt reply Raden. I suspected I might have a problem with this as a couple of plumbers I have spoken to have been a bit reticent about tackling it. If you have a spare I`ll happily buuy it off you but you`re not exactly in my neck of the woods-unless you were on holiday when you...

    Decking stains

I recently inished decking the back yard, during the summer with standard treated boards. Once they were laid a week or so they turned a beautiful golden colour but I realise this will fade before long to a grey colour. Does anyone know of stain that will retain some of the colour? I`m not keen...

    Decking Screws

I`ve just finished decking the back garden and I used the type of screws you mentioned. The actual ones were Timberlok 4" with a hex head and they worked a treat, even with a £25 B&Q cordless. Bit expensive but worth the outlay I`d say.

The central dial has stopped turning but I`m having trouble finding a replacement, for the whole unit thatis. Anyone got any suggestions - I`d prefer a digital unit if possible. Thanks in...
