    building shed base above soil

Hi all, putting a shed base down on sloping soil. There's around 240mm of drop across 8ft. This obviously means i've got to build the base up from the lower end to the higher end. Soil is clay , so sub based definitely needed. I'm completely confusing myself with the best way to do this so would...

what max thickness can a concrete shed base be?

for the thickness, i was thinking more of the likelihood of cracking the thicker it is :) Specifically as it's going to be sitting on top of the soil level, rather than being built below it, so no support on the sides as such other than the frame used to build it. I'm capable of doing it, just...

what max thickness can a concrete shed base be?

The shed is a corner summer house.. not much weight but it's on thick clay soil prone to moving.. hence the sub base really. I cant think of any other way other than concrete to get the height? I know i can use a wooden shed base on top of a thinner concrete base, but i want to avoid that just...

what max thickness can a concrete shed base be?

Hi all, after realising that my apparently easy corner shed base was not going to be so easy, i've come across a stumbing block. It's on a slope, and as i started removing the old (smaller) shed base of pavers and sand, i realised the area and slope was bigger than i thought. Basically, there's...

It's a raised step at the bottom of a back and front door. Yes, we walk on it. I'll get a pic later.

    shed base on clay soil

well i'm admitting defeat and putting a sub base down. Is this sort of stuff okay? https://www.wickes.co.uk/Tarmac-Granular-Sub-Base-Mot-1---Major-Bag/p/131884

    shed base on clay soil

The shed is literally one of the below. 8x8. I was really hoping to get away without a sub base, but i'm guessing not judging by the comments. I would prefer to avoid the concrete route if possible, and use pavers on top of the sub base. But, from what i'm reading maybe this isn't a good idea.

    painting wooden doorstep

Hi all, both of our doors have a wooden doorstep. I need to re-treat and repaint it, but can only find info on concrete ones. What kind of paint would be best for a wooden doorstep?

    shed base on clay soil

what kind of thicker base? And what do you mean by raft? Do you mean the base of the shed? I'm thinking more specifically of the sub base. Ie will i need an MOT type base on top of the soil.

    shed base on clay soil

Hi, i'm reading so much opinion on this so thought i'd ask. Getting an 8x8 corner shed/summer house , and it's going on top of a heavy clay soil (which previously had an old shed on top resting on pavers and a badly done dry mix, mainly sand). I've levelled off down to the soil again. My...

    garage door insulation

Hi all, just a quick one. I've started to insulate the metal garage door, which is part of the house. I've used Jablite Premium, was maybe going to add a layer of superfoil, then a gap, then some 5mm ply covering everything (which i need to double check is fire retardant but I'm fairly certain...

    8 gang kitchen switch thing...

I'm fairly confident but its probably beyond me in all honesty, so i'm looking at getting someone in once we know our options with faceplates etc. Think i'm going to order a Yoke and the faceplate in, and go from there. For the sake of £10 or whatever it is, might as well just see how things...

    8 gang kitchen switch thing...

Yes i'm expecting to change the whole assembly, but not the backbox if i can get away with it. I'm wondering if i could use the screwless version of the varilight faceplate, and drill new holes where needed. Need to measure a bit more though i think.

    8 gang kitchen switch thing...

Okay, thanks. So, if i cant find another faceplate, then the only option is to remove the backbox and replace it with another that will fit the MK/Varilight plates?

    8 gang kitchen switch thing...

Hi all, got a broken kitchen appliance switch that needs completely replacing. Can i replace it with something like the variglight 8 grid plate and modules? Would i need a new backplate too?

    another shower pressure question

Does the pump supply the shower only or all of the upstairs? And does it fit in the airing cupboard with the tank or behind the shower unit? Also, there's good pressure on the other upstairs bath and sink taps for both hot and cold.. much better than the shower.. so i'm thinking maybe trying a...

    another shower pressure question

yes, airing cupboard on same floor. No, there doesnt appear to be a pump on the shower pipework.. i cant hear any evidence of one. There is only a shower in the room, no bath. I cant see any markings on the tank, no. Here's the shower control setup. https://pasteboard.co/JNTyAEp.jpg

    another shower pressure question

Hi all, moved into a new house lately, built in 1998 which has a gravity fed traditional tank in the airing cupboard etc. The main bathroom has no shower, but the ensuite does. The pressure from the shower is really bad... I've seena couple of vids about improving it etc, one of which includes...
