    Thanks for the offer JohnD. Intend to replace both lamps and then see the result. Suspect that the damp cellar and age (18 year) of the lamps contribute to the fault. Shed deserves new gear , will contact you if problem persists

    Do the fluorescent lamps require earthing? The problem is that the lighting circuit ( only two fluorescent lamps) trips the RCD when the lamps are earthed. When the earth leads are removed the RCD does not trip.

Putty is no longer used to seal the glass to the rail etc. So if the glass was placed from inside and sealed against the wood by tape. The beading can now placed inside.     Masona why is the beading usually outside ? It seems that if was inside that would avoid the need for drainage channels in the beading or capillary tubes in the rail. It seems to be so sensible that I must have missed the real reason.

    Is there any guide for fixing DG units into a wooden (oak) casement window. I need information on use of butyl, of blocks to separate the DG from the frame and some method of retaining the DG unit. Very grateful
