Why does my CH keep blocking up? (and how can I stop it?)

Thanks JohnD, I figured when I was flushing my rads through that there must be a similar amount of sludge in the pipes which I was not really able to remove. My pipes are 10mm so probably wouldn't take too much to block. Having said that, it does seem to be the primary heat exchanger which is...

Why does my CH keep blocking up? (and how can I stop it?)

Over the last 3 months I seem to have found myself in an endless loop of flushing through my CH and then 2/3 weeks later everything is all blocked-up again, and I need to flush through again. - To start with I found that a manual flush ( as in the wiki) worked but when this failed to work I...

Urgent! Baxi 105 HE stuck on pipes and I need to remove it.

Thanks poxi I'll try that in bit. I'm sure it is sludged up. I've been taking the rads off and hosing them through while I was waiting for a reply here and some of the flakes of sludge are almost a 1/4 of an inch. If some of those have lodged in the HE. it won't take long before its bloked...

Urgent! Baxi 105 HE stuck on pipes and I need to remove it.

Sorry Poxi, Its the Primary Heat exchanger, which sitts over the burner. The flow and return pipes come down from it and it should just sit on the top of these, with the help of clips. However, I can not pull it up off the pipes. Martin

Urgent! Baxi 105 HE stuck on pipes and I need to remove it.

Hi, I'm trying to remove the HE in my Baxi 105e combi, so that I can give it a good clean (see earlier post about no CH). I have removed the fan hood and the retaining clips from the flow and return pipes as per instalation instructions but the HE is still stuck solid. Any ideas as to how I...

CH still blocking even after flush, HW prob also. Any ideas?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I too had suspected the pump, but it always works fine after I have flushed things through. Although I haven't taken the head off yet, so I guess it could still be working when the system is clear, but start to slow quickly when things start to build up...

CH still blocking even after flush, HW prob also. Any ideas?

Thanks ChrisR. I used kilrock system cleanser. It stated something like 14 days new systems, 21 days existing systems and 28 days for something else. I think I am resigned to losing the solution now. Can I just be clear that the secondary heat exchanger is the same as the Plate Heat...

CH still blocking even after flush, HW prob also. Any ideas?

Very good picture corgiman. It reminds me when I go to the beach and I get sand in my shoes. I always have to shake them like mad to get the sand out again! Martin

CH still blocking even after flush, HW prob also. Any ideas?

Thanks corgiman. Do you think this is the only way to clean the xchanger propaply so that it will not clog up again, after a few weeks? I have used the method listed in the wiki to flush the system. Also do you think the system cleanser would have had any effect after just 3-4 days? It said...

CH still blocking even after flush, HW prob also. Any ideas?

Hi all, I have a baxi 105e combi. I posted here about a month ago and got some good advice as to flushing my CH as my downstairs rads were not heating up. This problem then got worse as over a few days as all the rads went cold. After I had performed a manual flush as detailed in the...

Some of my radiators are cold - Is it sludge or pump?

Thanks for the tip Martini. unfortunetly all my rads are now not heating up - infact the only thing that is heating up is the flow pipe out of the boiler and the pump. Both of which are red hot. I have now confirmed that the pump is still spinning, and am a bit concerened that it may have...

Some of my radiators are cold - Is it sludge or pump?

I took the central screw off the pump this evening, as the casing was getting very hot. I could see it rotating when the HW and CH were on, so I think I can say that the pump is OK and it is looking like I have a massive blockage somewhere. Would like to know if the pump running against the...

Some of my radiators are cold - Is it sludge or pump?

Thanks ChrisR and rob884, HW is the same as normal. CH boiler temp has been maxed out all night and is hardly ever going down. I think this is because there seems to be no real flow to take the hot water around the system. The flow pipe out of the boiler is red hot, but the return is cool...

Some of my radiators are cold - Is it sludge or pump?

Thanks ChrisRoberts, I've just checked and they all appear to be open, I.E. they are pointing forward. I just tried to turn them, and the return valve is quite stiff, but I did manage to hand turn them all (flow, water feed and return). For info, when I got home today none of the rads...

Some of my radiators are cold - Is it sludge or pump?

Hi, I started my CH up last weekend and all the rads upstairs heated up fully, but downstairs remanded cold. I tried bleeding all the rads, but no air in any of them. I then tried turning the upstairs rads off to see if the heat would come through downstairs. Eventually, the downstairs rads...
