I have a problem a check valve in a home built hot tub circuit

I built a hot tub control system, both the plumbing and control system: it's like I'm back in Engineering school :-). But I have an issue I can't solve and need some thoughts. Tub itself is 145 diam x 110 height, about 1800 litres. Pipes are 1' bsp screw fittings, or 28mm solder-ring and...

How to fit a facade around a diy built hot tub?

Thanks, but we do want to keep it round rather than square.... I wish we did not have to insulate at all so we would see the staves and the compression band, but winter can be down to -15 or lower!

How to fit a facade around a diy built hot tub?

Hi, We built our own wooden hot tub this summer (our house in Sweden we just finished building earlier in the year). ~1.6m diam using 45mm thick staves (width ~140mm), total height ~1.5m. We had the boards cut at a local timber mill and milled convex/concave locally too. Capacity 1800L. Secured...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Here's the end result, as carried out and certified by my builder and Part-P electrician (I did the design and first fix for everything: he verified - said it was better than most of the professional stuff he sees ;-)), then did final wiring up and testing). We reskimmmed the ceiling which on...

Board choice for small suspended bulkhead?

I am planning a 3m x 1m suspended bulkhead in a kitchen. Ceiling is concrete (not pre stressed). Bulkhead will house lights (6x 2-lamp recessed multiples) plus some led back lighting plus fire detector, etc. Not sure how far suspended, depends on the light fitting requirements. Not (yet) sure...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Nice idea ... and this is what we are doing for the kitchen - it's a bulkhead lowered by 15cm over most of the kitchen, 30-50cm from the walls / edge of the kitchen. At least for this, I can run some boxing from the rear wall into the bulkhead and it will not be so noticeable and look okay due...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

The doors go all the way to the ceiling - they are really nice, I don't feel like cutting them. Nor cutting down the built in wardrobe doors ... nor other stuff I probably haven't though of yet ... like I said, false ceiling is great idea. Works in general (had it done before on a smaller flat)...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Cost and effort of all this false ceiling though and to change door heights and to avoid nailing batons into 15cm zone already with wiring ... There are more solutions. I'm not sure about D trunking, but someone suggested it ... happy to hear more, apart from the naff ones :-). I'm unlikely...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

No, standard 1970s concrete pylon, concrete ceilings/floors, breeze block walls. Concrete all round. All existing lights are wall or sockets (round pin). I've got some good input from this thread (though I'm not sure about that cross hatch D trunking idea, but I'll see what the wife thinks...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

What is it with false ceilings? I don't need a false ceiling! You guys must be builders :-). All I need is a proper solution ...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Had the plasterboarding discussion already ... good idea in general, but won't work for me, other than bathrooms. Generally there are no wires in the ceiling anywhere with three exceptions: (1) fire detectors that need to be ~30cm to 50cm away from the wall (solution: run the alarm cable buried...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

MICC appears too complicated for me. I may need to run it conduit with boxing around it. Will figure it out now that I have a lot more information to hand.

    Alarm cable terminal/junction blocks?

heh. Thanks. What are some specific problems that I should watch out for re. screened cable? I have only just started wiring, so if there are any hints and tips they would be most appreciated. Alarm systems are outside of my experience, but I am an engineer by training (years since I did hands...

    Alarm cable terminal/junction blocks?

It's unscreened for this part, does that cause a problem?. My mistake, it's 6 core not 8 core cable. It does have a common (unsheathed) earth in it.

    Alarm cable terminal/junction blocks?

You saw my other thread. Runs across a 30-50cm section of concrete ceiling within 5mm of plaster. Already not ideal to run the cable in the plaster this way, so thought it better to do one run of cable and a tee, rather than two runs of cable and no tee. I know what the ideal solutions are...

Ok, I'm ashamed I didn't think about this further. Will reconsider.

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Sure, in general - but this is low voltage alarm cable, surely not a problem for a short run, it's sheathed to the top of the wall, but stripped back for 30-50cm out to a fire detector. It's not ideal, but under the circumstances (the alternative being to have some visible cable across a...

Ahh yes, you mean whether I am going to start broadcasting or not?

    Alarm cable terminal/junction blocks?

Shielded isn't all that more expensive for me, and I'm happy to pay a bit more for the potential benefit (even if in reality, there is no actual benefit). I'm not a professional, so I err towards caution. Soldering sounds great. The joint is not visible, but is accessible. I agree to...

chase concrete ceiling for 1mm csa lighting?

Okay, I'm willing to listen. In terms of the alarm cable, what is wrong with stripping the outer sheath for about 30-50cm? The inner cores are still twisted, I needed to strip the sheath because the plaster is not thick enough for sheathed 8core cable. I have done the alarm cable. For the...
