thanks for the advice. I've got the cement mortar and went to fill the cracks this morning. I started by gouging out the loose material and quite a big chunk fell out and exposed the lintel, which looks fairly rotten with rust... images here...

there isn't a specific childlock button on my machine. I seem to remember it being a combination of buttons that are held down for a few seconds...

we've reached the "terrible twos" and I've got a bosch exxcel 1400s express washing machine. I've lost the manual but know it's got a childlock feature in there somewhere. How do you turn it on and off? Can't find a manual online anywhere! Thanks Colin

sorry john... what do you mean by fitting it 'cross threaded'? I fitted the new one and the water didn't cut off at all when the cistern fills past the float. On closer inspection, I've noticed that with the old diaphragm, the flow gets reduced somewhat when the cistern fills past the float.

done that. b & q were actually very helpful. put it all back together and it's still not cutting the water off. am I going to have to get a whole unit? thanks for your help anyway, C

Cheers for the v. quick answers! I bought one of these before but it didn't work because it had a mail connection and this wasn't compatible with the mail connection coming into the cistern. Or am I being stupid?
