    Adding a window

Thanks for that, exactly the sort of thing I couldn't manage to google up myself! From the regs it looks like the room isn't legit as a bedroom, so I'll follow up with that and find out why they're claiming it. I'll also ask about the cert - it's a big extension (5 rooms), so hard to imagine...

    Adding a window

I'm looking at buying a house that has a bedroom without a 'normal' window; the house has been extended, so the external wall where the bedroom window was has become an internal wall. The room has a velux-style roof window, but I'd prefer to add a regular window in the remaining outside wall...

    Placing a bathroom extractor fan

Thanks! I take it a low-voltage model would still require inspection according to part p?

    Placing a bathroom extractor fan

Hi all, Our bathroom had a 4" vent through an outside wall with no fan/electrics right next to the shower head above the bath. We've moved the shower and taps to the other end of the bath, so the vent is now the length of a standard bath (plus an awkward couple of inches of tile!) away from...

    Underfloor topup heating

Our bathroom currently has a small radiator (for about 1900BTU) plus a simple chromed towel rail that I've no idea of the rating of, but given that it's basically 3.6m of 25mm chromed pipe probably isn't much. We're looking to replace this with a single large towel radiator rated at 2143BTU as...

    Shelves in Loft

Thanks Markie - they'll definitely be centered in the walls, as there's barely 5 feet of clearance even at the highest point!

    Shelves in Loft

I'm not expecting to put much on the shelves, and would certainly remain within the limits of whatever shelving I use. So assuming I'm not going to bring next door's house down I guess I'm OK

    Shelves in Loft

Not sure if this belongs here, but... I've recently upgraded the insulation in my loft from 100m to 270mm, and have raised the floor height by 170mm to do it. I've boarded the central section of the loft as well, covering about half of the total area up there, for storage. I kept it to half...

    Cross-Batten advice

Deluks - the advantage of the insulated board is that I don't have to raise the joists at all - I can just lay them over the existing joists. That greatly cuts down the amount of work required, and reduces the height of the end solution (the roof is already low enough that I can't stand up)...

    Cross-Batten advice

Thanks Static. I'm a little concerned about having timbers tall enough that they will tend to fall over, but I guess if I have them fastened at their base and boards connecting the tops then they should be stable. Oh, and to answer part of my own question, I've found out that the supadeck...

    Cross-Batten advice

I've just moved into a 1970's house that currently has around 100mm of fiber-glass batt insulation in the roof. My current plan to improve this is: 1. Add some loose fill to close off existing gaps (after 35 years the existing insulation doesn't adequately fill the joist spaces. 2. Raise...
