Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

I never knew my question would spark!!! of a sparky bun fight. Would anybody like to comment on the original question (cable sizing etc). I've got the option to do either I could fit an additional MCB to the RCD protected side of the house CU, but as I've bought a garage CU with an RCD...

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

Briwire, If I wanted RCD protection at the house end I could of used the RCD side of the house CU but having done a bit of research on the forum the general concensus is to put the RCD protection at the shed end not at the house end. Judging by RF's reaction I guess I'm right. In terms of...

Thanks for the link had a quick glance will read it in more depth later.(After sleep) The other four meters of SWA will be cleated to the outside wall of the house / inside the shed up to the 'garage' CU. Big U shape I always use conduit through cavity walls when joining to the back of...

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

Okay point taken about the cable ratings I understand there are many factors influencing it's capacity, however they are there as a general guide. Okay given the installation i.e very short length of 6mm (2M max)T&E passing through cavity wall with no cavity insulation, potentially having 2...

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

Ban, Regarding upsetting the supplier, is that upsetting as in legal action. In my view the enclosure is part of my propertyas long as I dont interfere with EB equipment in any way. Previous enclosures I have seen have had plugs and secondary fuseboards in etc.

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

6mm T&E because according to TLC 4mm is only rated to 32A which is a bit tight with a 32A mcb. 4mm SWA because it's rated to 39 A i.e in excess of the MCB. Twin core SWA because I dont need 3 core as i can use the wire armour as CPC. Unless you suggest otherwise? (I get the feeling i'm...

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

Dont fancy making a conection in to the house CU in SWA as it's inside a cupboard it will just get messy, plus bending it to pass through the wall / in to the CU will cause problems.

Another Shed Supply Question With A Twist

:D I am considering running a permanent electrical feed to my shed which is aprox. 2M from house / CU. This is the intented plan 6mm T&E connected to a 32A (b) mcb in the non RCD side of the CU, through the house wall in to a waterproof junction box where it will connect to 4mm twin core...

    SWA Gland Eath Tag Connection

Glad to see that my question has generated such a discussion. But getting back to the guts of the question is it okay / acceptable to solder the earth wire to the earth tag ???? This seems the most simple method given my situation and what i've already got. Have heard in the past that...

    SWA Gland Eath Tag Connection

Not really that short on space as it is inside a masterseal waterproof junction / terminal box (decent amount of space). As it's a terminal box it will be possible for me to solder an earth wire on first then connect to the earth terminal within the box. Just really wanted to check that...

    SWA Gland Eath Tag Connection

So just to clarify I can put the earth tag inside the enclosure and soldering to it is okay :?: Using a crimp terminal and nut 'n' bolt may be tricky as the hole in the earth tag is a little on the small side. Cheers Darren.

    SWA Gland Eath Tag Connection

Just wondering if it is acceptable to solder the earth wire to the earth tag on SWA glands :?: Cable is being passed in to plastic juntion boxes at both ends, so need to use the earth tag. Any suggestions comments gratefully accepted.

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

:) John, I've checked the RCD in the CU it's a 80A ,32mA. It does not state on it the reaction time. The only other markings on it are Legrand, 086 31 & BS EN61008-1. Does this sound like it will be acceptable ??

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

John with reference to point 2 I was planning on running the spur from the existing socket to a 13A FCU for the outside socket and a seperate spur from the same existing socket to a 3A FCU to feed the lights, that way I can isolate the exterior plug but leave the lights operational. Is there any...

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

    1. Sorry i did mean socket not plug 2. Thanks for the advice on connecting the FCU's 3. Cable is already installed between leaves of wall not a cavity wall just a double leaf garden wall - did not want the mess of external conduit / not enough room to run conduit or trunking between leaves of...

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

Basically I was asking if I spur an outside socket of a socket on the ring main if it was good practice to use an outside (waterproof) socket with it's own in built RCD, given that the ring main is RCD protected at the CU. Or would this be overkill / incorrect.

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

So basically your saying not to use another RCD in any shape or form as the ring main is already protected at the CU.

    Secondary RCD For Outside Plug

 I'm considering adding a waterproof outside socket and a feed to some mains exterior lights. The plan is to feed two FCU's from a spur (2.5mm T&E) taken from the back of a plug in the kitchen (have checked that it is on the ring main) one FCU (13A) will feed the external waterproof...
