    Wireless networking problem

People trying to get access to my PC - i.e they had bypassed the router firewall and only stopped due to the software firewall. If you choose not to have a software firewall then that is up to you. But having mine shows me how many times people have got through the router. You have no way...

I can't seem to get my wireless adaptor in my pc to work

If you want a softwall firewall then go for it. It doesn't take up much resource and provides extra security. Better to be safe then sorry in my opinion. You could just use the firewall built into the router but then that is down to how much risk you want to take. Why do people instal...

    Please help a beginner ! ! ! !

Well that was fun - got the missus to do the test and it was like a wet T-Shirt contest - so thanks for that :D That was on the cold tap - the hot tap we could stop with our thumbs. The manual for the shower is: http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/98/p4205198.pdf It says that it...

    Wireless networking problem

I am very safety consciencious. I would rather have security measures in place rather then get a problem and wish i had installed it. Software firewalls don't use up much resource so why not. Better to be safe then sorry - just my opinion. Looking at my software firewall now - and it...

    Password

If your mate reloaded windows - that means he reloaded it over the top of an existing version of Windows. Means that any passwords will stay there - plus any crap the previous owner had on there will still be there. Password recovery tools are very good - but in this instance I would...

    sloooooooow comp

I have to agree with the above - I wouldn't touch the AOL software with a barge pole - but it is handy for the people who don't know about PC and how to work them. Anyway - were kinda going off topic. Jayzee - on the task manager mention in earlier post - check how much memory is being used...

    Wireless networking problem

Well done for solving it - just a quick on though - I would advise to get a third party firewall rather then trusting the XP inbuilt firewall

Laptop refuses to power desk monitor.

Apologies - just reread you original post - it was late when i did my first reply  I assume you have checked the docker by using another laptop and monitor etc etc. The monitor is fine as are the cables. The only another thing that could cause it is the System board. The system...

Where does the supply come from?? This could be tricky :D but i will try to explain. In the kitchen is a boiler. I have noticed that if you run the hot tap, after a short delay the boiler fires up. Upstairs in the airing cupboard is a big arse tank thing. In the loft is two tanks - one...

Do a check for a s-video connection on the laptop and docker. I would be very surpised if the sony does not have one of these.

Laptop refuses to power desk monitor.

The problem is being caused by the graphics cards onboard the motherboard. No display on both monitors confirms this. Solution - get the motherboard replaced or get the company to give you a new laptop.

    Please help a beginner ! ! ! !

First off I am a complete beginner. But since moving to a house that needs a ton of work budget is stretch so have had to do most of the work myself. Anyway, the old bath suite was awful so we purchased a new one. The pipework all needed to be moved as the bath, basin and toilet positions...
