Frothy rainwater coming from new felt roof (?!)

Yes, that's what they've said - that it's got the silver paint on top. I've never seen it because I'd need to risk life and limb to climb all the way up there.. Is it normal then for the silver paint to ooze residue? If so, does it eventually stop? :?:

Frothy rainwater coming from new felt roof (?!)

Roof tiles, concrete ones and 50 years old at that. And yes, it was clean (transparent - if it was really clean I wouldn't have to filter it before use) I'm thinking that there is bitumen residue up there, that's how the water looks and smells. Surely others must have noticed this

Frothy rainwater coming from new felt roof (?!)

I'm very serious. I've got 4 water butts, 2 at front and two at the back of the house. I filter the rainwater (through used Britta cartridges) and use it all over the house (and the car). It is very-very soft, if you spray your conservatory plants for example, it leaves no streaks on the glass...

Frothy rainwater coming from new felt roof (?!)

I've got a new felt roof on my loft conversion, it's been up there almost four months now. I've noticed that the rainwater that runs off is frothy, and after checking the water butts it is still very filthy too. After the rainfalls of the past few weeks I would have thought that any bitumen...

    screwfix

Here's a tip: For some perverse reason, they have a different set of product numbers on the catalog, compared to the internet. A good idea is to get the numbers from the internet before you go to the counter --- a friend of mine found everything in stock when using internet numbers instead of...

New flat roof - longest lasting covering?

I've recently had my two flat roofs redone in fibreglass (GRP). Looks neat, no seams anywhere, nice light gray colour (heat reflection), can walk on it no problem, won't scratch. Very happy, wouldn't have it any other way. I did consider the various EDPM rubbers, but in my view GRP has...

    screwfix

I'm not trade, but I was happy when they opened a 'Trade' counter here in Orpington 2 weeks ago. I went last Sunday to get some plasterboard fixings. After waiting in a long queue, I realised that they employ cheap (and not cheerful) minimum wage young people who know NOTHING about the...

GRP vs EPDM (Fibreglass vs Rubber)

Well during to inclement weather the roofs are still undone. I still haven't seen any compelling argument against GRP, and during hot sunny days I'd much rather have a light grey shiny surface rather than a black matt surface. In the winter it doesn't matter ofcourse. My cats could get...

GRP vs EPDM (Fibreglass vs Rubber)

I still haven't done it, last weekend was meant to be wet (although it wasn't) and as we know installing GRP in the wet is a no-no I'm not sure if these cracking incidents are due to faulty installation. If it rains while the fibreglass is curing then it will crack. The thin layer of rubber...

GRP vs EPDM (Fibreglass vs Rubber)

I finally decided to go for GRP. I think it has an edge over rubber on sun reflectivity and robustness in general. We'll see how it goes. 8)

GRP vs EPDM (Fibreglass vs Rubber)

I don't think so, the pitch is not steep enough in the kitchen. It starts off roughly where the pitched roof of the rest of the house ends. The garage slopes a bit more, but no more than 15% I'd hazard a guess.

GRP vs EPDM (Fibreglass vs Rubber)

I'm currently deciding how to replace two flat roofs at home. They are about 15sq m each, and the felt is falling apart (no leaks inside yet though!) I've had a couple of felt specialists, Fibreglass and Rubber as well. Each one thinks their own product is the stuff of dreams, and the other...
