    Mark up on parts

I'm not complaining about the price (yet), but I want to know what I'm paying for. I want to get a few quotes and try to break them down into parts and labour - not so easy if they mark up the parts to make the labour seem cheaper, unless they are quoting for identical systems. Judging from...

    Mark up on parts

Been quoted a figure in region of 1500 quid for supply and install of new Worcester 65000 BTU boiler. The last time a Corgi guy changed a CH pump for me he charged me almost double for the pump - I guess some mark up is to be expected and is in with his overall price - I assume he would just add...

    CH Pump Problem

Thanks Chris, I'll give that a try. I've removed the pump and stripped it down - looks ok, not too much oxide deposit, but the impeller can be wobbled from side to side by 1-2 mm, which I guess is not normal?? - would that suggest the bearings are shot, accounting for the noise.

    CH Pump Problem

I've just fired up the central heating in my house for the first time since I moved in, having had a few radiators off for decorating. I've been round and bled every radiator in the house but only the upstairs ones are getting hot. The pump seems to be working but it is quite noisy (not...

    Timber frames houses

The house I have just moved into is of timber frame construction. I've not had anything to do with this type of house before, but I've been told it is important not to damage the vapour barrier when doing any work. How far is the vapour barrier behind the pasterboard? What would be the best...

    Professional inspection

Thanks for the advice guys. I wonder how often certain famous landlords recently released from prison have their wiring inspected?

    Professional inspection

Just wondering if any of you professional sparkies did inspections and issued certificates for rental properties. I am thinking of renting out my flat and a certificate for the electrics is strongly recommended. What I was wondering is how picky is the the electrical inspection? Obviously...
