    Newbie Heating question

Hi Tony, yeah last time it didnt run dry as such, and it still had about an inch or so of oil in the bottom. This caused the boiler to cut out, and I phoned a local heating engineer who advised me to jack up the tank slightly or get at least some new oil, then open the boiler and bleed the...

    Newbie Heating question

Ah ok, ill have a look for that then. I looked earlier, and although theres not a great deal of room to see, it looked like the white power cord coming from the immersion goes down into a 6 inch square box with Danfoss written on it, and then out of that there is grey and white power with "feed"...

    Newbie Heating question

Thanks for the quick replies guys, the switch in the kitchen when we first moved in was one of those big white ones with red switch and it had heater on it, so we kinda knew thats what it was. Anyway 2 years ago we had the kitchen completely refitted and it now has a black metal type switch on...

    Newbie Heating question

Ok, so basically when we bought our house a few years ago, we inherited a fairly new CH system, which was purchased by the previous owner. It comprises of a Riello oil boiler, a Megaflo, Danfoss controller and after moving in it took a bit of messing about to figure out how to get it to work...

Hot water not as hot as it used to be

Hey guys, just wondering about my hot water. We always had the thermostat set to 21-23ish through the summer and the water was always perfectly hot, however in the last few weeks we've noticed its not. Is this simply due to the water being colder to begin with or is that irelevant? We have a...

    How much do you think?

We are planning having a painter and decorator over to give us a price for a room in the house, and wondered if any of you could give me a rough guide to what you think it would cost. Its a square room, roughly 4 metres x 4 metres requiring a bit of plastering/sanding to remove traces of...

    Hot Water System Pressure

Thanks for reply. hmm im not sure to be honest. Just moved into house in last 4 months, and before that lived in a flat with storage heating so all very new to me. The system itself however, was only fitted in Summer 05 so its all very new. I guess I'll maybe need to get a plumber out to have...

    Hot Water System Pressure

Is it normal to have to check pressure level every week or so? I find when I go into the cupboard where the megaflo is the reading is under 1 BAR and I usually have to turn both valves open for about 10 seconds to get it back up to 1. Sorry for the bad terminology, bit of a newbie

Can anyone help diagnose this BT line / phone problem?

I would say its an HR Dis (High resistance Disconnection) somewhere on your line, which can be sometimes hard to find. However saying that a competent Openreach engineer should be able to find it using it a tone. Either that or check CSS for spare E and D sides, always the quickest easiest...

    Sand for lawn

Im very new to gardening, and when I first bought my house the lawn was very mossy, so I removed a lot of it and added new seed and its coming along very nicely. However someone mentioned that sand is very good for lawns, especially as mine is not pefectly level. Is this right?

    BT line

Dropwire only uses 2 wires to the master socket, not 3. If you require a second line, meaning a brand new line, they would use the other pair, and terminate it into a new master socket.

    BT line

If there isnt a brick wall then you use what is call a bracket 22, which is a three holed triangular shaped bracket for wood.

    BT line

I wouldnt say its "normal" persay, but its certainly not unusual. More often than not on new provisions, the dropwire is old and needs replaced anyway. The fact that they replaced the pole suggests to me that its been there a long time, and the dropwires were more than likely old and brittle...

    help with stairs..please!!

I would say carpet first, then tiles as you would want to have the carpet as flush to the floor as you can and then butt the tiles up against it. The thickness of the tile would then cover any raggy cuts at the end of the carpet

    BT line

mdbalson, I am a BT engineer and I all I can say is that is shocking! The engineer(s) responsible for that should be sacked, or at least an unexpected sack beating! The rules now state quite clearly that all dropwires must be secured to an Eyebolt which is driven into the customers BRICK...
