    Concrete or wood

All the pipework is buried in concrete in floor/walls of the house we are building, which I found a little worrying, but I was assured 'this is the way we always do it'. Ours is plumbed in PVC and galvanised pipe. Really, how often will you need to access the pipes? I'd bury a little sand...

    Water Butt Collection System

That does seem a bit back to front, but probably because the tap water is pretty awful, whereas rain is 'usually' fairly pure. My wife won't let me drink the tap water where we live.

Insulating a single wall out building - Valid questions.

I answered an almost identical post yesterday, but as I'm not a builder by any stretch of the imagination it is just my own method I used. Our outhouse was on the back of an ex-council house, with the same sort of porch you have, originally open to the air, but we added a UPVC outside window...

    Central Heating, why?

Hell yes. Why just last month I had to get up in the middle of the night, a couple of times, to turn off the air-con. :D

So now the home-owner needs to supervise professionals as they ply their trade, look over their shoulder as they're doing their job?? I bet they'll love that.

    Insulating concrete floor with rockwool?

I'd not even screw the floor battens down. Just lay them out over the DPM and screw the chipboard over them. Maybe put something down so they don't cut the DPM, some felt or that green board they use under laminate flooring. I'm not sure if condensation would be an issue under the DPM. Maybe...

    Central Heating, why?

Hell yes. Real men go out and chop a tree down to warm up in the winter.

    Central Heating, why?

If you only intend to use one room a single heater is ideal, but if you have a family, and you actually use a house like normal, moving around, going to various rooms, going to the bathroom etc, then central heating is by far a more efficient, sensible, cheaper way to heat your house.

    Teak workttops

I'd be contacting the people who supplied them. They must have some recommendation for maintenance. Or did you just buy some teak and make your own? We have a large teak coffee table, basically a huge slice of a tree trunk, and it is very difficult to keep looking nice, and probably needs...
