    Doorbell advice

I fitted a new bell push! "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death...

    Doorbell advice

My doorbell, which is wired (2 wires) is acting up. The bell push works most of the time but not all the time. There are no screws on the bell push cover, so how do I remove it without damage? Any advice, most appreciated. Henry. :) :) :)

    Smoke Alarms

Warm greetings. I had two smoke alarms fitted when I had the house re-wired a few years ago. They were wired in. They started to bleep so I knew I had to change the back up batteries. I switched them off at the mains and removed the batteries but they still bleeped until I put the new...

    Nuts & Bolts

I nipped to B & Q today to compare it with an M8. It is not the same. This measures 7.5mm dia. It is a new part so you would expect it to be an M8. Henry.:) :) :)

    Nuts & Bolts

It has a hexagon nut and it is for securing a finial to a summerhouse. I don't know what the thread is. I assume it is metric? Henry. :) :) :)

    Nuts & Bolts

I have a sample of a bolt that I need to order. How can I find out what size it is to enquire on the net. Does it go by the bolt thread outside diameter? It measures 7.5mm bolt thread o.d. It needs to be 8" long so I think it will be a special? Henry. :) :) :)

    Sky Cable & Power Cable.

Warm greetings. I am going to install 2 'Sky HD' cables in readiness for my Sky HD box installation. I am thinking of running it down through the airing cupboard. Will there be any problem with interference if I run it in a conduit carrying 2 electric power cables? Henry. :) :) :)

    Chrome Discs

I have some radiators in a conservatory and the pipes that feed the rads come through plywood. A larger hole, approx 1" dia was cut to allow the 1/2'' pipe some movement. I am trying to locate a supplier for the Chrome discs used to cover up the holes - I think they are plastic? They are about...

    Vaillant Boiler temperature settings

Ah Ha!! It is a double Rad with 2 bleed screws. There was air in both sides!! The Rad felt hot at the top and the plumber had bled it, but you were right!! Many thanks, Henry.

    Vaillant Boiler temperature settings

Tony, The boiler is in a separate room behind the garage. The problem bedroom is next to that. I think the 'whooshing' is coming from the boiler. There is a radiator in the boiler room (The first Rad in the line) and I think that may be the one where the noise begins. I went in and it was...

    Vaillant Boiler temperature settings

Hi Tony, The valves are Drayton TRV4's. All the rads have been bled - no air traps in Rads. Henry. :) :)

    Vaillant Boiler temperature settings

After increasing the temperature of the boiler to 63C and balancing the Rads the even temperature spread to all Rads has been achieved. The Rads near the boiler only needed to be open slightly to do the job. The downside is that there is regular clunking/tapping from the rads closest to the...

    Vaillant Boiler temperature settings

The radiators at the far end from the boiler and are hot at the top and cooler at the bottom. These are the old style. The feed pipe is at the top of the radiator and the 'out' is at the bottom. I wondered if the pipe supplying the hot water should be at the bottom so the hot water can rise...
