Lighting failure in kitchen - please help

Hi all! I have a circline (60w) light in my kitchen but it wont switch on. For a couple of weeks it would flicker a little and then come on but wont do anything now. Just spent £13 on a new bulb but that's made no difference. There's a little light around the plug on the bulb...what else could...

    fireplace help

Thanks for the reply mate. I checked the top of the fireplace but it looks like it's immovable. It's a fixed plate all the way around the open fireplace. It's one of those gas fires with the fake coal - there's a couple of large holes at the top for ventilation. Doesn't look like I can reach up...

Hi guys - not sure what to do about this little problem so I thought you guys could suggest something. For the last few days I have heard some movement from my chimney and just assumed that birds had built a nest up there. Small bits of dust and masonry (not brick, I don't think. little pieces...

    gas meter worries

Hi All, For the last week now there has been an odd creaking noise coming from the area of my gas meter whenever I use my gas fire. just turned both taps off (clockwise, both were turned all the way to the right to start with) and flushed the toilet but i still have an abundance of water. turned the taps on too but it didn't stop. very confused as i'm sure that's what the taps are there for. should i only try using one?

    this question's beneath you...too easy!!

nope, it doesn't take 20 mins to fill, it's full but keeps dripping. it's like the valve doesn't go high enough to totally stop. it drips until it gets to the point of the crack (hasn't happened yet). i figure if i use the toilet every 2 hrs there may not be a problem. i will try turning off the...

complete fool when it comes to plumbing so i thought someone here could offer advice. my toilet tank started dripping last night so i thought i'd just let it drip out until empty and get myself some form of sealant until i can buy a new toilet. for the first time in four years i've opened it up...
