OK, so there's no access from above. Easier surely to swap the fitting for one that accepts a cable direct into the fitting so that it is completely hidden.

Isn't it far easier to ditch the existing fitting and get one that will fit over the existing cable? Job done, no farting about? Yes, you spend money on materials, but there's no messing about fishing, pulling up carpets, floorboards etc...
