    Federation of Master Builders

Anyone know much about this lot? I've been in touch with them recently to see what they offer. Anyone a member? Do you and/or customers rate it?

    Cold Calling

Freddy, I get cold calls every day too. Some are useful, most arent. I'm a groundworker - is that proper enough for you? Sitting on the phones looking for new customers isn't my dream job either. In fact, it fills me with dread. However, going back to the whole point of of my original...

    Cold Calling

Thanks all for the suggestions - I know calling businesses in the area may not be popular, but my customers don't necessarily use Yellow Pages, or websites. I of course use both for advertising our services, but my point is that I need a stronger network of business customers. Mates of mates...

    Cold Calling

I know theres strong enforcement by the TPS to protect private/consumers, but it's a bit hazy when it comes to business to business contact. I want to introduce our company and invite other businesses to consider using us in future, and maybe allow us to quote. I know this happens...

    Cold Calling

Hey all, I'm developing business with trade customers and one of the obvious methods is cold-calling businesses and asking them to consider using us a supplier (we're a plant hire company). Bit of a longshot, but I'd appreciate the help as I've got no real sales "pitch" experience, and...

    yellow pages v Yell.com v Google v anything else!

Got a bit of a discount for signing up to Yell.com at the same time. One YP rep was insistant that the Business Pages edition was the way forward. I didn't go for it. Anyone else signed up to it, and is it worthwhile?

    yellow pages v Yell.com v Google v anything else!

I'm a bit miffed with the Yellow Pages and Yell.com packages - I'm going to put my neck on the line and say they're just not good value for money for us. And far too easy to haggle with, indicating their inflated headroom when it comes to pricing their packages. However, it's always in the...

    Rubbish summer affected business?

A5 leaflets - Mail drop or in papers? Anyone reckon it would work for a digger hire company? Or would I get more joy from hitting the businesses? (hitting in the marketing sense, of course!)

Small businesses - Beware of scam.

Agreed, Yell.com and pages are incredibly expensive. Yet to prove that it's value for money. Was quoted over £2000 by one Yellow pages rep for placement in 2 editions. Said no, then got a call back a couple of months later and they offered one edition for £480... Still steep.

    Rubbish summer affected business?

All good stuff - thanks for that. We're based in South Manchester, but we cover Cheshire, Manchester, Lancs etc. Plenty of builders/landscapers out there, but it's getting the word out and the name across to them is the problem. What's been your most effective form of advertising? We're in...

    Rubbish summer affected business?

Ha! Yeah, but I didn't like to ask. Maybe next few jobs I could get a bit wayward with the digger bucket and see if I can throw some replacement gas-main business your way?? (Kidding obviously - knackering gas-mains isn't big or clever and it doesn't do much for repeat business...)

Small businesses - Beware of scam.

Yep, I get these scams all the time. Unfortunately, most of their calls come up as a landline or mobile number these days, so I end up actually having to talk to them to tell them to go and sh1te. Now have 7 numbers saved in my phone (Charity B4stard 1-7), but they still get through...

    Rubbish summer affected business?

Hi all, New here so be gentle! I've been hiring-out and operate a couple of diggers for just over a year and was relying on the summer months to bring decent business. Obviously, like so many others, we were pretty much washed out. Now concerned that heading into the winter months...
