The strangest thing: Calling all Sherlock Holmes

I like the way the guy from the DNO is wearing his glove told hold his tester, but sticks the probe in with no glove! Also I'd say the shot with the light coming on at dusk is not the same streetlight - it is striking up red like a SOX. The one outside her house is a SON. Anyway, enough of...

    Shocking

Whilst, like reading an accident book, these stories are quite amusing just think that your 1st shock could have been your one any only before it killed you. If it doesn't kill you, maybe the the tiny fragments of molten copper at over 2000 degrees C herltling towards your face at 700 mph may...

S Electric, EDF...what are their policies??

I find it hard to believe that they say pull the fuse yourself. I work in the streetlighting industry and you need to be suitably authorised (similar to G39) to pull fuses (even 25amp s/l cutouts). The use of rubber gloves, covered limbs and visors are a must. Why would it be different for...

    Picture of the week™

Is the new main earth continuous from the lead sheath? Looks like it goes from lead sheath to STA (Steel Tape Armourings lugged then from STA to CU. I would prefer to see it the other way round. Also, in the original picture, is that earth conductor going into the cutout or behind the board...

    Dusk to Dawn wiring question

Can you confirm the make and model. If it's dusk to dawn it could be a PEC (photo electric cell). RF is right, they wont be adjustable. Lot of manufacturers, but your principle is correct unless you wire it in 3core from a JB or the light itself. Also, is it a Nema type or miniture block...

    enclosure for joining big swa

Yes, it is Self amalgamating patch, just trying to get the proper name (I'm sure it's not what you imagine it to be called!!!)

    enclosure for joining big swa

Use insulating patch, much stronger and eliminates the risk of hot working. (risk assessment) Can get the details of what it's proper name tomorrow if you want. It's the stuff that only sticks to itself when the backing is removed. So you simply wrap it around the connector.

    enclosure for joining big swa

Yes, to do exactly what you want to do. One thing to remember though. Lay the new cable the right way round - so that cores line up. Put the other way and you'll have to bend the cores - not very easy with 240mm. Also you may need some core twisters to get them to lie correctly in the...
