    Thanks for the help folks, I opened up the stop cock again and the pressure remained around 1.5 - 2 bar. I'll get the plumbers back to have a look at the pressure relief valve though

    Heating's been running now for a few minutes and it's staying at 1.5 bar (in fact it has now dropped down to 1.5 bar rather than just above) I'll keep my eye on it and if it goes up again I'll call the people who fitted it to have a look. Cheers for the help!

    I've emptied some water out as well as air and it's settled at slightly above 1.5 bar now – so I guess that's a bit more as it should be.

    Getting somewhere, undid the radiator valve, quite a lot of air came out and the pressure had dropped to 2 bar

    The heating has been on, it's off now and the dial is still on 4. The heating hasn't been on until the last day or so, maybe that's got something to do with it?
