    Patio base.

Perhaps I should've given more detail. The concrete will be a level slab for me to lay Indian sandstone with the recommended fall away from the house. Reinforcement may be overkill, but I'm doing it myself, a bit belt n braces perhaps? There are no drains underneath.

    Roofline

Not true. The majority of fascia and soffit replacement jobs are done because there is rot or water damage. a cover up job will exascerbate that problem. Notice I said majority? Some customers just want a maintenance free exterior and may have woodwork in good condition. The tilles will still...

    Patio base.

Hi all. I'm building a raised patio, 4 course high, with hardcore and approx 100mm of reinforced concrete fill. The concrete will be contained between the house and wall. Do I need to put any expansion gaps in? I've hopefully uploaded a pic with sizes etc. Thanks. Nick

S.P. Saban Ltd (Steve) Fits Swish UPVC fascias and soffits. 01920 462343 From Ware in Herts. but it's not far from Chelmsford. He won't do a cover over job! I work for him from time to time and certainly wouldn't recommend someone I didn't trust.

    Suspended wooden floor prep.

Hi, I'm preparing a floor to accept 6mm plywood as a base for amtico planks. The existing suspended floor is a mixture of old t&g floorboards and plywood. My idea is to caulk any gaps and run slc all over the floor before nailing the plywood down. Is this the way to do it? Cheers.Nick.

Where can I buy a spiked roller and other bits?

I knocked a couple of pins into a piece of timber (600mm wide), protruding to the required depth (5mm) attached a 2m length of batton as a handle. did the job for a one off job. It's only for a rough spread, the roller takes out the imperfections. Good luck.

    stepped stairs / edging

You'll need to cut a scroll detail and plant onto the string, covering the spindle housing. Make a template of the shape you like and cut with a router or jigsaw. See 5th picture down from this site: http://www.stairplan.com/oak-cut-string-staircase.html

2x6 cross batten onto joist or parallel & screw into tru

How wide is he house? Would it be possible to fit joist hangers from the gable walls which would allow you to fit at any height, giving you 270mm and transferring all weight onto the brick walls? The only issue with this idea is getting the lengths of timber through the house and into the...

    Amtico

Hi all. What do you LVT fitters do at door thresholds when the heights are different? The difference is only about 3mm. The floor I'm about to lay on is highest. There is already Amtico in the other rooms but the new planks I'm laying next weekend won't butt up to the existing. Is there a...

removing a tiled fireplace - any help appreciated!

They could be the fixing points. There's no harm in chipping away at a couple of areas to find them. If not, prise the surround off the wall a little bit using a bolster or crow bar and this should reveal the fixings as the plaster will pop off the wall in those areas. Remember, the surround...

Chasing pipes in to wall for bar shower

I used expanding foam around my pipes. Wet the surfaces with a water spray as it helps with curing and adhesion. When dry, I cut it back to below the wall surface, primed with pva and plastered. I'd guess you'll be tiling over the chases anyway. HTH Nick.

    LVT Adhesive

Hello, I'm laying some Karndean at home this week and I've not bought any adhesive. Will Laybond L80 Gold do the job or can you recommend another adhesive that I can buy locally, ie from one of the sheds? Cheers. Nick.

    Damp

Hi, Just to add, i covered a small area of the floor with clear polythene and sealed as best i could with gaffer tape. The result showed no moisture or condensation. I know it's a long post but if you think i'm going the right way about it a simple thumbs up will do. I'm also open to other...
