Alan M, I think that is pretty much what is happening. When I switch from hot water only to heating & hot water, the boiler fires up for a bit, then shuts off. This is what the plumber reported...thanks for your help: No central heating. Found Alpha Ocean Combination boiler with 3 bar...

Thanks for the reply. The £300 was to find out why the radiators weren't taking water from the boiler - the options to fix were to take up the kitchen floor, or bypass the existing pipes. Either way, I couldn't afford to proceed. The plumber isn't the issue - it's the builder who's gone...

Thanks for the quick reply. The radiator valves are open, but I think I need some help on the isolating valves. Under the radiator, I can see one isolating valve with a plastic lever- this is in line with the pipe, so I presume that it is open. I wouldn't know how to check any others...
