After plastering, how long a wait is it before I can paint?

Hi, I've just had a guy in who has skimmed our ceilings to hide the hideous artex. The lad has done a terrific job, but I forgot to ask him how soon I can paint on it? Is it ok to start as soon as it looks dry, or should I wait a bit longer? Any help advice will be apprecited...

Getting quotes for a new combi

Thanks John, some good advice there. It's really difficult knowing who to trust, especially when you are new to the area.

    Central heating nightmare

I'd get the lock changed. He's had the key that long, he could easily have had a copy made. Getting the original back is no guarantee that your house is still secure.

Getting quotes for a new combi

Hi, I'm in the process of getting quotes to install a vaillant ecotec plus 837 to replace my old and knackered vcw 221H. So far, I've had a (1st) guy quote me £1700 inc vat over the phone, and another (2nd) guy, who came round and looked at the job properly has quoted me £2000 inc vat...

17 Year old Vaillant...fix it, or put it down?

Thanks, Chris. A mate of mine has just removed a working boiler of the same type, so I think I'll go rescue the SCV from it.

17 Year old Vaillant...fix it, or put it down?

Yeah, I've been told these boilers are pretty much bullet-proof...maybe this one was hit by a grenade! :D Any particular reason for your suspicion, or just a hunch? Either way, it's worth exploring.

17 Year old Vaillant...fix it, or put it down?

I've now fitted a new pump and diverter valve (both confirmed as faulty) to this boiler - a VCW GB 221H. The DHW is fine, but the CH is still problematic. To get the CH to start, the boiler has to be switched off, drained, have at least one of the banjo pipes at the bottom disconnected...

    Hey, experts...what should I buy?

Very likely! Good idea, I'll give that a go. Thanks.

    Hey, experts...what should I buy?

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but as I'm quite new to this area I have no idea who is reliable and who isn't. I've asked a couple of neighbours, but no joy. I just want to ensure I get the best I can for the money and avoid being ripped off. I'm still fuming with the guy who sold the...

    Hey, experts...what should I buy?

Hi all, My current boiler, a vaillant vcw gb 221h, seems to be dying (due to the previous house owner attempting a bodged diy repair). I'm looking to replace, as the engineer who has (almost) got it working properly (got hot water now, but no CH) has advised that no-one will warranty a...

    Vaillant VCW GB 221 H

Thanks very much, I'll do that. My only worry is I've only just moved to this area, so I don't have any knowledge on who the good guys (or girls) and who the cowboys are. I'll ask around. Thanks again, Heggsy

    Vaillant VCW GB 221 H

Thanks for the swift reply, bengasman. I'm a complete novice with this, but I do have the installation booklet. Would this be the "Hydraulically Operated Diverter Valve"? I forgot to mention, if I close off all the radiators, the hot water comes through fine...would this change your...

    Vaillant VCW GB 221 H

Hi, I've a Vaillant VCW GB 221H combi-boiler hooked onto a parallel CH system, with individual thermostat radiators. The fault symptoms are confusing me... When a hot water tap is turned on (in DHW mode, ie CH is OFF), the water from the tap, at best, gets lukewarm, but the...
