Rusted section of 1970's steel central heating pipe - pics

Also.. I did try to unscrew it but it didn't shift. I didn't have a blowtorch for heat or the tools for leverage so I just used an anglegrinder. Perhaps not advised in the loft due to the sparks but my blunt hacksaw was not man enough for the job. I think I was lucky I didn't burn the house down.

Rusted section of 1970's steel central heating pipe - pics

Thanks so much for everyone's help. Managed to get a Philmac coupling that worked. Just a standard 32mm one with a 28mm copper insert on the other side. All is watertight now. That said, it wasn't cheap. I think the merchants had my pants down. Two philmac couplings + 2 inserts £32. Thanks also...

Rusted section of 1970's steel central heating pipe - pics

Thanks for your reply. The pipe feeds a fanned warm air heater for the lounge. We've never used it but may one day so I'd rather keep it. Have you had any luck cutting this type of pipe before, what's best to use? Is 1" the bore with heavy walls, as it's quite a bit larger than the 28mm...

Rusted section of 1970's steel central heating pipe - pics

Hello, I've just been into the loft to find a water mark on the loft boarding. I've taken the insulation off to reveal a rusted section of pipe. (see pictures). The pipe was probably fitted int he 1970's so is likely to be imperial. I've measured around the pipe and it's about 4 1/4...

Old skirting radiator valve - Calling 70's plumbers!

Hello, Just removed an old wardrobe in my 70's bungalow which had the bits attached shown in the picture. It looks to me like an ancient thermostatic valve. Can anyone tell me if I'm right and what to replace it with as I don't want it/can't fix it on the wall. Thanks

Baxi bermuda with no separate feed and expansion cistern

Namsag: That's brilliant. It should work then! Nige F: Funny you should say that. Last year in the old house we had a fake chimney breast.. and guess what: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTkxqCQxuCE Okay it's me as santa but perhaps there is hope :)

Baxi bermuda with no separate feed and expansion cistern

hmmm. yes but...: Surely there's a minimum height for the gravity system to work (does anyone know?) If the primatic system is faulty then there's no point in calling a plumber as I would simply not bother with the installation (is there any way to check?) As the boilers manual does not...

... and how would he test how the primatic cylinder is functioning correctly or (as I suspect) it is leaking into the cylinder.

And would the new gravity feed be sufficient as it's not very much higher than the boiler itself.

But.....Given the above synario, would it be possible for him/her (the plumber) to simply fit the existing flow and return pipes or would he need to do something else.

Thanks Dave, As it goes I've just found that page myself - I can't tell you how happy I am. I really thought I was going mad. It kept me awake all night thinking about it. I even climbed into the loft at 4am to see if there was something I'd missed because I couldn't sleep. Thank god it now...

Baxi bermuda with no separate feed and expansion cistern

Yeah, we've tried the electric heater option but not only is it costing us £300 for electricity per month, the house is getting mouldy. Now I can undertstand the position of a qualified plumber condoning unqualified installation but it is not against the law to fit your own boiler if you are...

Baxi bermuda with no separate feed and expansion cistern

So how does this work then? As for fitting, I'm armed with a manometer and the installation manual, I know the Corgi checks and (until I came across the problem of having no spearate feed and expansion cistern) thought I was competant and knew what I was doing. I realise by asking on this forum...
